Untitled[edit]

An infobox was requested for the 1963 Lenny Welch recording of "Since I Fell for You" at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Missing_encyclopedic_articles/List_of_notable_songs/12.

First Recording[edit]

By calling Annie Laurie's version of "Since I Fell for You," (With Paul Gayten's band), a "cover," the All Music Guide [AMG] seems to contradict the book, "Who Wrote that Song?" by Jacob & Jacob, and agrees with this Wikipedia article regarding who was first to record the song. (See AMG Biography of Annie Laurie by Eugene Chadbourne at allmusic.com [[1]].)

I was wondering if anyone had any other input on this?

Unexplained Emphasis on 1989 Cover[edit]

Most of the article seems to be devoted to a lesser known 1989 cover of the song, without explaining the importance of this version, and to the releases on which that cover is found, as well as seemingly irrelevant information about an additional live recording. This gives the appearance of promotion rather than notability. The track listings are particularly gratuitous.

At best, the section should be edited down and folded into a new section about other versions, with the bulk of the article devoted to the origins of the song, early or significant recordings, and a clearly needed section for Lenny Welch's definitive pop version. (I say 'definitive' meaning that it became a staple of oldies radio and has been the most commonly heard recording of "Since I Fell For You" for more than half a century).

Unless someone can show cause on this or would like to weigh in or take action, I'll return in a few weeks to delete this inappropriate section and move the band's listing to the list of "Other recorded versions" where it belongs. Joe Suggs (talk) 12:36, 24 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The relevant guideline here is WP:COVERSONG. Essentially, the only cover versions that belong here are those that are notable under WP:NSONG (essentially, those that have charted) or are discussed in reliable sources about the song (yes, articles about Joe Blow might mention his death metal version, but we're looking for an article mainly dedicated to the song that specifically covers his version).

Based on that and the current content in the article, Johnny Diesel and the Injectors' version does not make the cut. Thus, Welch's 1963 and Jarreau's 1986 version warrant sections. - SummerPhD^v2.0 14:02, 24 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that. I'll give it some time in case someone else wants to do the necessary or make the case for Diesel, and then proceed. I wish there was more information at hand on the Lenny Welch version.
