Brigade Command[edit]

Regardless of what the Eichers wrote, Atkins commanded his brigade of Kilpatrick's division at least until Johnston's surrender, possibly until his muster out. Just check the orders of battle for Bentonville and the Carolinas campaign, and consider that he would not have met Ella Swain if it had been otherwise. --Reibeisen (talk) 22:14, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Correct, the ORs have him in that command position all over those months in countless reports, letters and orders of battle. No clue why the Eichers don´t included that timeframe there. Purely guessing on my side, as they write his command until January 12, the special order for his nomination as brevet brigadier general (right over here) from that day said that the nominated officers are to be "assigned to duty according to their brevet rank" without more details on those commands ... and Atkins already was assigned accordingly. Still strange ....GELongstreet (talk) 23:05, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
