Notability

[edit]

This has come up every time the article has been created. As of 2024, Rock Paper Shotgun is the main source that I can draw from. I know for certain that there was a previous feature on 1Up.com, but I haven't been able to find the archived article. There are also the three cited magazines - Wireframe, Retro Gamer, and PC Zone. Total Gamer, Games Master, and GameGO also had at least half-page articles covering the game, but I haven't been able to find scans of the relevant issues and the photos aren't especially promising. I believe that the coverage from Gizmodo, RPS, and Wireframe are significant here. Reconrabbit 02:23, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Would like to add that the search I did for references was exhaustive. If the article is turned into a redirect again I would recommend that it not be added to Redirects with potential. Reconrabbit 12:21, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@MarioSonicPlayer Would appreciate your input here. Reconrabbit 17:55, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The Notability template is better suitable. After all, this fan game doesn't receive as much coverage as official titles. MarioSonicPlayer (talk) 20:36, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Neither does Sonic After the Sequel, but the fact that it at various points did receive coverage is reason enough to give pause. Reconrabbit 21:28, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Adding zones

[edit]

now, i entirely disagree with the deletion threats on this item, but i think adding zones would be a good idea. Ckitty2010 (talk) 16:29, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Adding zones is very unlikely to be useful. Probably the best comparison this article has in terms of structure is Sonic After the Sequel. Not many sonic games have "levels" or "zones" listed. The notable exception is Sonic Generations which uses them to compare inclusions from previous games. WP:VGSCOPE provides more info. Reconrabbit 17:59, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Programmers" section?

[edit]

None of the three programmers listed have been involved with the game's development in many years, plus the collaborative nature of this game's development kinda makes a dedicated "programmers" section a bit strange, as there's been far too many people who have made massive contributions to the game to properly list.

I can understand Sonikku and SSN's being credited somewhere given how they were the ones who started the whole project, but Mystic was both not there from the start, and actually contributed very little. His most notable work was actually a map pack called "The Mystic Realm", which while it did have much of it's music and textures eventually donated to the base game, was still a largely standalone project. I'm admittedly not a first hand source on this subject however, I'm simply going off of what I've heard from various developers here. Frostiikin (talk) 21:58, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sonikku's relevance to the programming side is also comparatively minor, as he was notably a designer while SSNTails handled the programming aspect as they were already familiar with the engine. It was SSNTails' work on Sonic Doom 2 that inspired the switch from TGF to Doom in the first place. Sonikku was also involved for less than five years, leaving the project in April 2002. While certainly important as a designer, his role as a lead programmer is questionable. DylanDude120 (talk) 22:06, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As an addendum, it may be preferable to amend it to producers or directors. SRB2 itself simply lists these three under "Game Design" in the credits. DylanDude120 (talk) 22:08, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just created that section in the infobox based on the game's credits. It might be more useful to just list directors or remove the list entirely. Reconrabbit 01:16, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've decided to simply remove the programmer category altogether. Truthfully, I don't feel like SRB2's lengthy development span lends itself well to crediting a few people as the leaders, although it's generally accepted that SSNTails has done the most work of any one person. Right. Thank you for that. There were some previous revisions of this article that indicated as such (but were on the whole inappropriate for Wikipedia because they were mostly long plot and gameplay summaries with no references). Reconrabbit 16:04, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
