SCIENTISTS say he's gay???

"Some scientists claimed SpongeBob was gay but, they later dropped the charges and Steven Hillenburg has denied this on numerous occasions."

What "scientists"? God, I hope this isn't referring to right-wing nuts like James Dobson, or any of the discredited, homophobic pseudoscientists he endorses, such as Joseph Nicolosi.

The controversy might be worth mentioning because indeed there are prominent anti-gay leaders who have accused this character, and other cartoon characters, of exhibiting homosexual characteristics, and their attacks are usually part of the current culture wars and thus the issue takes on a larger historical and sociological importance. But the nutballs saying he's gay are far from being scientists and their observations are far from being scientific (or logical, or sane, etc.).

And as far as I know, real scientists study the natural world, they don't spend their time making assumptions about the sexual orientations of cartoon characters.

I'm changing the line to "social conservatives", which is just a nicer way of saying "right wing nutjobs", which is the only class of people I have ever heard accusing Spongebob or any other cartoon character of being a homosexual.

True, the only people who accused him of being gay are conservative, but those are a small minority of conservatives, and are extremists. Most conservatives don't think Spongebob's gay.

Driving test

The article says SpongeBob's taken a driving test 38 times. According to Mrs. Puff, You're Fired, it's 1,258,056. I'm changing this, but if there's a problem, revert it. --Gray PorpoisePhocoenidae, not Delphinidae 22:18, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Spongebob has taken the Driving test 38 times it states so in the episode where spongebob cheats on his driving test by patrick giving him the answer 69.115.46.242 02:03, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Spongebob's real name

In the episode "Patrick Smartpants" Patrick refers to Spongebob as "Robert" shortly after storming after Squidward's house.

  • Yes, Bob is short for Robert. So his real name could be SpongeRobert. Thunderhorse 13:37, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

i dont think so i think he just sead it to sound smart like pepole call someimes call me samule when its leagly just sam Sailor cuteness 13:17, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Yeah, I agree. Besides, his license doesn't say SpongeRobert. -AMK152 14:43, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

No, no, no. Spongebob's real name is Spongeboy. It is the for Spongebob when Stephen Hillenburg sketches his picture on 1980's and 90's.

Charlie Murphy?

I recently heard that Charlie Murphy plays the voice of Spongbob. Is this true because I don't really believe it.

No it's Tom Kenny. --Aved 05:25, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

SPENGBAB

I came across this disturbing video recently and I think it should have some mention. Thunderhorse 20:28, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Give me one good reason why it should be included. And if that reason contains the words "Artistic", "freedom of speech" or "popular", Then you should burn yourself at the stake. ~ PHDrillSergeant...§ 22:35, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

I saw some of it and it should not be mentioned. --Aved 01:04, 1 January 2007 (UTC) Pardon me for asking, but what's SPENGBAB? If it's scary or frightening, I won't watch it (in fact, I won't watch it anyway), but could you describe it with vague comments, please? I only watched part of it it was just some hand with eyes drawn on it singing the theme song and then a bunch of very disturbing pictures of spongebob pop up. it's really not scary but the pictures just flash up so the shock can scare you.

Family Guy

In an episode of Family Guy that aired last night around 11PM Eastern, Stewie had a SpongeBob figure. He explicitly called him "SpongeBob"

Mention-worthy? Thunderhorse 00:40, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

But where should we keep it?--Aved 01:05, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Help please

Hi. An anon keeps blanking the age section and/or changing the age and dates. These are not verifible, and I'd rather not revert again because of 3RR. Could someone change it back, at least partially, and give a reason? Thanks. AstroHurricane001(Talk+Contribs+Ubx) 00:55, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Cleanup

Hi. When I was reverting vandalism to the article, I saw lots of possible misinformaton, so I tagged it. I didn't remove it because there might have been more, and I wasn't sure if it was fake or not. Could someone give this article a periodic cleanup, or possibly semi-protect it, as it frequently gets vandalized. Thank you. AstroHurricane001(Talk+Contribs+Ubx) 21:43, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

I monitor this page reguarily. I will go through the entire article and make sure false information is remvoed. ->AMK152(TalkContributionsSend message) 00:55, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Mistake in my revert

What I meant to say in my revert was that I have watched most of the episodes of this show and none of those episodes even mention this "Kelly Tait" character. Here is my revert. Squirepants101 21:09, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Birthday

I've chatted with the creator before (in real life), and according to him, SpongeBob's birthday is May 19. I'm gonna change his birthday. --Der4 18:47, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Unless you can actually provide a source others can check, I think that would be considered original research (which isn't allowed). TJ Spyke 20:10, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

GAY?!

Spongebob Squarepants is not gay. His gender currently says that he's gay! This word isn't even a gender! And Stephen Hillenburg proclaimed that "Spongebob isn't gay. In fact he's almost asexual, becuase he's a sponge,". Case closed. RIGHT?

That was vandalism. -AMK152(TalkContributionsSend message) 20:46, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Look at the German version of the article. There, this matter is widely dealt with. (E.g. the fact that Spongebob and Patrick try to raise a baby-shell in one episode. This is most obviously an attempt of the creators to render a homosexual family of two fathers with a child possible. --212.241.65.41 14:09, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Other Nick Charcher?

Think Should Take off the Carcher from other Nick Show Both SpongeBob's Frinds and Foes.

Takua X

Do NOT remove.

I saw some people removing that SpongeBob is currently 20 and that his D.O.B. is July 14, 1986. No need to remove these, they're very true. --98E 20:13, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Better image

I put a better image of SpongeBob, illustrations are FAR better than screenshots. --98E 23:02, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Please remove

Someone typed in that SpongeBob likes to watch guys undress(it's under Leisure) . THis is not true ofcourse. Please someone remove it.

An Answer To Question: How Long Spongebob Work In The Krusty Krabs?

In the episode of "My Pretty Seahorse", there was a script that tells the number of years Spongebob and Squidward working in the Krusty Krabs.

This piece of script Squidward tells Spongebob when Spongebob confusing of 3 kraby patties who disappear:

(Squidward): In case you've forgotten, here's how things work. I order the food, you cook the food, the customer gets the food. (Spongebob's eyes move to the side of his face as he notices Mystery eating a customers food. Squidward is still talking) We do that for FORTY YEARS and then we die. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me, what do you say?

You saw that? Squidward actually says they work in the Krusty Krabs for 40 Years. So, there also answers for Spongebob's Age and How many Squidward be an Employee of the Month. Why? Because, number one, many people know that Spongebob is a little guy. But, it is impossible to make a pattie time by time for forty years, when Spongebob is only 20 yrs. old. number two, we all know that Spongebob has experience to be an Employee of the Month for 31 consecutive years. Maybe, Squidward got an Employee of the Month too.

But the best thing is Spongebob and Squidward work in the Krusty Krabs for 40 Years!!

Maybe these helps.. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Patrick793 (talkcontribs) 15:49, 2 May 2007 (UTC).

Not true. First, Squidward was being sarcastic. Secondly, if he really meant it, he means that when they start working, they would work for forty years and then die. It doesn't mean theyve been working there for forty years as of that episode. -AMK152(TalkContributionsSend message) 20:55, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Something wrong about Spongebob's Enemies

No name or Friend is really Spongebob's Friend. For evidence, (If you watch "Jellyfish Hunter", you are nearly understand what I've talking about) Spongebob save all the jellyfish in Mr. Krabs' factory by the help of No name. If No name is not in the act, Spongebob will never know what Mr. Krabs doing to the Jellyfishes.

Please place No Name/Friend on the Friends dialogue... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Patrick793 (talkcontribs) 17:05, 2 May 2007 (UTC).

Information

I have restored the extra needed sections. Some people may consider it fancruft, but it doesb't matter, because the fact is: it isn't fancruft, it's useful. Why? Because his age, birth date, and other stuff are important to note. Plus, Wikipedia is not a paper encyclopedia. The article doesn't have limited size. And I see no reason why anyone would disagree with me. - Super48 14:37, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

First off, I will say that I am completely right, and you are so very wrong. I don't really care how that sounds to you, but I have done this enough times to know that I am correct. If you look at any featured article about a character, you will not find a giant analysis of every minor accomplishment of the character. You will not find complete crap like nicknames. What you will find is a description of the character's development, character, role in the series, and impact on real life. It doesn't matter what you think is important. What matters is what is encyclopedic, and none of that is even close. I suggest that you goto the SpongeBob wiki on Wikia. I believe it has little to no content, but you can start off with just copying and pasting the existing articles there. Nemu 14:43, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
But this IS needed info. If we can't have his age here, then we shouldn't in other articles about characters. If we can't have his birthday, we shouldn't for other articles about characters. If we can't have his voice actor, we shouldn't for other articles about characters. - Super48 14:47, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
If you are only defending those three points, why did you revert the rest? The age is OR. You can place the birthday if it's given, but unless an actual in-series date is given, you cannot make any claim of his age. No specific voice actor information was removed. The section about the development of the voice was merged into "development." Nemu 14:54, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
How is his age original research if it was revealed in "Sleepy Time"? The temporary license shown in that episode reveals he was born on July 14, 1986, so he's 20 and will be 21 soon. - Super48 14:56, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
The year in the show is not the same as the actual year in real life, unless it is stated by the creators or in the show. It could easily be 1998 in it for all you know. Are you defending the rest of that information or not? Nemu 15:00, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I am. And yes, some shows DO feature the same year as in real life. - Super48 15:02, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Some shows do that, but those are some shows, not this one. You have to back up your claims. Once again, I am fully in the right. The fact that you, a fan, values this information means nothing to the non-fans. A person looking up SpongeBob as a character would want to know a brief amount about him. Nobody cares that "Also in multiple episodes he seems to have a knack for singing." You want a separate wiki where you may pursue any trivial thoughts about the character that you may have. Nemu 15:09, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
His birthday varies episode to episode. FOr example, on the episode "No Free Rides", it reveals his birthday as July 11, and the year covered by his fingers.--I Will Endure 15:01, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Lots of strange text

There's lots of weird text I just saw in this article. It seems to be everywhere, and I don't know how to get rid of it all. Is there a good version of this page I can restore? Aillema 21:37, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Okay, I got rid of some manually. Aillema 21:45, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Someone put "hardcore porn" next to spongebobs name...any way to find out who and stop vandalism? (Ozrockchick 10:09, 14 May 2007 (UTC))

someone put spongebob is in love with sandy? too many little kids post stuff, page needs to be locked.130.13.47.58 06:05, 30 October 2007 (UTC)elmuj

Age?

Where is it stated that his year is 1996? Unless you can prove it, it gets removed I'm afraid. Captain Drake Van Hellsing 23:42, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

That's vandalism. -AMK152(TalkContributionsSend message) 14:32, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

No, me good friends, I am afraid that is not vandalism. In the episode where SpongeBob enters other people's dreams, (title?) he gets a license which reads that his DoB was 1986.

Someone had actually changed the comment to say 1986 instead of 1996. It was vandalism to change it from 1986 to 1996. -AMK152(TalkContributionsSend message) 23:52, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Vandalism

If you click on history you can see several edits that vandalized the article. While I don't know how often most articles are vandalized, I recommend making this article semi-protected. Legedevin 18:46, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Is there a page for formal requests? There are too many comments about SpongeBob being gay or a Patrick-Spongebob relationship. Noobeditor (talk) 02:43, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

SpongeBob's Year

Can we all please settle on this whole debate about his year? Should it be left in there or taken out? As I got a message from an ip address concerning it, however, seeing as how it has been discussed and known, I myself, think that it should remain in the article. Captain Drake Van Hellsing Savvy? 01:44, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

If there are reliable sources for both then both dates can be mentioned. I know that in No Free Rides and Sleepy Time, Spongebob's driving license says "DOB:07-14-86". I don't remember seeing one for 1980 so unless a source is provided that states something else then it should stay as 86. ●BillPP (talk|contribs) 23:34, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
Yes, and what's more, they need to stop coming to me in regards about it and instead, discuss it here, as I'm only trying to keep the year in there, via the discussion, and if they actually have a problem about his year, they need to bring it in here and tell everyone about it and not just me. Unless of course, others have been getting similar messages in regards to it. Captain Drake Van Hellsing Savvy? 01:25, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Just to show a source, here's an image from the Spongebob DVD showing the date of birth: Imageshack linkBillPP (talk|contribs) 18:29, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Read about it in SpongeBob Exposed! [1], it says he's fifty in "sponge years". Sponge1987 (talk) 04:42, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
Could you make a proper citation? It's not good to have a whole paragraph as a reference. The paragraph should be in the main body of the article and the reference should be citing the book. Bill (talk|contribs) 11:03, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Spongebob as a cultist?

Should we add that spongebob seems to like being parts of strange cults? I thought about this when I saw an episode when they were in the "good neighbor society" and worshiping "the all seeing eye" or something. Also they were worshipping the Magic conch in "the club" in another eposide. Mavrickindigo 21:22, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

I think that'd be original research, assuming that he likes cults. ●BillPP (talk|contribs) 23:34, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

That may be, but there's no way to know that. You could put it up but it would probably get deleted. User: EuroJordan 17:59 November 5, 2007 —Preceding comment was added at 23:58, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

It is definitely OR. And it's opinionated. To put it on the article will mean it is almost definitely going to be deleted. Some users may even call it vandalism, but that would be extreme. In short, it's OR and doesn't belong in the article. Bowsy (review me!) 11:17, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
Yep. 'Tis OR. -AMK152(TalkContributionsSend message) 23:54, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Ring

In the episode Band Geeks. When spongebob is singing and he points up I saw a ring on his finger. User: Fablehaven Rocks 18:11, 17 June 2007

Is this regarding the article? -AMK152(TalkContributionsSend message) 01:29, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm not sure that it's relevant for an article. He may own a ring but that is a minor detail. We could add it but I don't see why we would. User: EuroJordan 17:51 November 5th, 2007
