Episode table
[edit]@Ajd: Per MOS:TV, episode tables should ALWAYS exist on their respective series/season articles, and thus always transcluded to the LoE article. If you disagree, it is you that will need to discuss this at WT:MOSTV and gain a consensus to ignore the MoS. Aside from the MoS, there is zero reason for the table to exist primarily there and not here. -- /Alex/21 06:57, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- As far as I can tell, MOS:TV doesn't actually say anything of the kind. Can you please point to and quote the actual clauses from MOS:TV that stipulate that, if they exist? The only mention of transclusion on MOS:TV is that a series overview table on a List of Episodes article should be transcluded to the main series article. It does talk about the circumstances in which content might be split from a main series article to a List of Episodes article; but in this case the List of Episodes article predates the main series article. Per WP:BRD, please don't just reinstate your changes after reversion without discussing them first.
- In any event, the reason for the table to primarily exist at List of Steven Universe episodes and not here is because that's where the list of all Steven Universe episodes is; people reading List of Steven Universe episodes will expect to be able find details on Steven Universe Future episodes there just like they can find details on main-series Steven Universe episodes, shorts, and Steven Universe: The Movie. Despite the differing titles, Steven Universe Future is fundamentally of a piece with Steven Universe; it's a limited-series epilogue, not an entirely different series. - Okay. I've come to learn today that "transcluded" isn't in the MoS, but it is certainly the currently-standing widely-executed standard practice and WP:CONSENSUS of WP:TV across tens of thousands of articles. This article is no different. Can you cite an example of this occuring at another article? For example, see List of Star Trek: Voyager episodes. All of the episodes exist at that article, except for those of Season 4, which exist at Star Trek: Voyager (season 4), and are then transcluded to "List of Star Trek: Voyager episodes". You have no precedent to back up this unsupported edit, hence my edits are completely valid, and you need to gain support for yours.
- Concerning your second paragraph: yes, and? The table of episodes still exists at "List of Steven Universe episodes" when it exists here, because it's transcluded across. People reading Steven Universe Future will expect to find details on the Steven Universe Future episodes at the Steven Universe Future article, so why is it not here? The table can exist in both articles at the same time, which it did with my edits. -- /Alex/21 00:14, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
- The result of the transclusion appeared to be that the episode synopses were not visible at List of Steven Universe episodes. The season 4 synopses aren't visible at List of Star Trek: Voyager episodes. It looks ridiculous and is user-unfriendly to people who want to read the List of Episodes article hoping to see a list of episodes. Is it possible to fix this bug and include the full episode table in both places? AJD (talk) 16:46, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
- Is there a reason why the summarized episode table should exist at both locations? The standard practice across hundreds, thousands of articles, is for the summarized table to exist at its dedicated article and then transcluded to a List of Episodes, un-summarized. Summaries should only exist at their dedicated article. Can you cite a pre-existing example of a situation against this? -- /Alex/21 21:12, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
- Because people are going to look for episode summaries at List of Steven Universe Episodes, because the summaries of all other episodes are there. List of Steven Universe Episodes is a "dedicated article" for... lists of Steven Universe episodes. The Voyager example looks ridiculous and is user-unfriendly; the reader is going to go "why don't they have summaries for these episodes?", not realize "oh, I guess the full list of these episodes is at some other place than the "list of episodes" article. It's absurd. AJD (talk) 21:45, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- Are they? If they find the table, and see the {{main}} link to Steven Universe Future, then why would they not follow it? If separate season articles existed (e.g. Steven Universe (season 1)), then the episode tables would exist at those articles, and then be transcluded here, conforming with the tens of thousands of articles that do the exact same thing. For showing summaries in multiple locations, can you please cite a pre-existing example of a situation against this? If not, and if you wish to change how this is done, then you need to discuss it at a wider location. -- /Alex/21 00:49, 13 January 2020 (UTC)
