thaler vs. daalder

Likewise, can anyone substantiate that it was the German thaler and not the Dutch daalder that lent its name to the Swedish? — Robert Greer (talk) 15:02, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Factual error

I am not quite sure of how editing works, so I will let someone else do the honors. The article says:

"The daler was introduced in 1534. It was initially intended for international use and was worth 4 mark, 32 öre or 192 penningar (singular penning)."

However, 1 mark = 192 penningar, and consequently 1 daler = 4 mark = 768 penningar. This is substantiated by a page which is externally linked to:

Due to copyright I will not copy the relevant passages, but it states that in the Svealand-region of Sweden 1 mark = 192 penningar, and that became the national standard in the late 13th century. Since the daler = 4 mark was only introduced in 1534, it would be equal to 768 penningar.
