It would be better to rename this to Symmetry-protected topological state (or phase) in order to distinguish between SPTs and real topological order since SPTs are trivial in the latter sense. My understanding is (no good reference at hand, sorry) that this distinction was not initially appreciated when these concepts took shape, but nowadays this is the preferred terminology.
