2022 - war: Now that Russia puts the EU-27 without gas and petrol, will the EU-27 communication, internet (data centers), hospitals, police, military etc will ever fall without electricity?
[edit]- . Critical infrastructure HAS to have an independent power supply. I cannot find how many days they have to be able provide power for themselves. I do know this is controlled by a national (annual?) audits.
- . Big Datacenters that are part of the internet backbone, have contracts with companies relying on them to secure their data and internet accessibility. Depending on the security level, this can be very costly and imply that the datacenters have their own wind turbines, fuel reserve, hydrogen generation capacity and fuel cells to transform that into electricity, and can even imply to construct a new datacenter on a node on the Synchronous_grid_of_Continental_Europe where power can reach the center from different sub-grid networks and require military nearby or on site presence and part of the structure underground and protected against a nuclear attack, solar flair, neo impact event (near earth object like a meteorite) and eventual "nuclear or neo-impact winter" event of up to 5 years. Many Big Datacenters make money selling their service as peak load energy and grid stability capability providers to the grid.
- . I was also preparing a paragraph on Dunkelflaute (period without any windpower nor solar power because of not enough wind nor sun) in the EU-27. If this happens - it happens in November, December, and January and on average for durations of 50–100 h/month - so about 2 to 4 days/month in one of the 270 regions, Europe is divided in. But because of regional intergrids, the chance this happening in for example the whole of Northern Europe - is hardly 2 days per month in those months. Transporting high voltage power from the North to Central Europe - about 1000 km, results in a powerloss of only 4%. Thanks to the EU-27 wide Synchronous_grid_of_Continental_Europe, the change of Dunkelflaute is near to zero days.
