TaiwanPlus Suggested Revisions[edit]

Please change the article name from “Taiwan+” to “TaiwanPlus”. The organization recently underwent a marketing change and now only uses “TaiwanPlus” on all official communications.

Add a section called “Availability”, under which I suggest: “The platform’s flagship news program airs three times a day on CTS Main Channel[3], as well as on the TaiwanPlus app and website. As part of the organization’s mission to target international audiences, all content is subtitled in English or original English content.” [4]

TaiwanPlus content production is divided into news and programming. I propose that a section called “News” is added that briefly explains the operations of the TaiwanPlus news center, such as: “TaiwanPlus news focuses on domestic issues but also includes coverage on major international stories. C. The platform airs a 30 minute daily news program called “TaiwanPlus News” at 7:30AM GMT on weekdays. A prerecorded news recap program called “What’s Up Taiwan” airs weekdays at 22:50 GMT and 15:00 GMT.[5]”

Add in a new section called “Programs”, that summarizes the type of content that the programs produce, as well as brief introductions for more notable programming. “Programs” introduction could be written as follows: “In addition to daily news coverage, TaiwanPlus also produces free programs aimed at enhancing English-language coverage on Taiwan’s culture, history, environment, and society. Most programs are original TaiwanPlus content, although some are released in collaboration with other organizations, including the streaming rights to documentaries, TV series, and movies.” Below are some of TaiwanPlus’ programs and short summaries that can be added to the article. All programs are available on TaiwanPlus.com if you’d like to verify their existence.

I've declined several of these changes, as Wikipedia is not an advertising platform, and all information must be verifiable and have clear evidence of significance. (Plot summaries of works on the service, for instance, fail the latter, while even simple factual details about the company with no source fail the former.)
I have moved the page to "Taiwan Plus", to match the current name of the service, and introduced the sources you have given and some of the information in some form. I've additionally removed a claim already in the article that was insufficiently sourced.

@Bilorv:Thanks so much for taking the time to read and make the changes, I really appreciate your advice and expertise. I'd like to bulk up the platform with more verified information, but as the platform was only founded a couple of months ago it's been difficult to find coverage. Does Mandarin language news coverage count as acceptable references for English-language articles? The platform gets more domestic than international media coverage. I was also wondering if the addition of the 2021 Film Festival I proposed would merit inclusion as verifiable and having clear evidence of significance given this source [1]. Thanks again!

Business Wire just publish press releases, so there is no evidence of significance. Film festivals are not generally significant in any case, unless they achieve an unusually large amount of independent coverage. Mandarin-language sources are fine in the English Wikipedia (as is any other language); however, given your COI it may take a while before someone is confident enough to independently verify that a Mandarin source proves what you want to add to the article. — Bilorv (talk) 13:12, 12 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

For future editors who review the suggested changes above, I've added additional sources from other media (excluding press releases) related to broadcasting times[1] and more sources regarding the 2021 Film Festival [2] [3] following the feedback I received here. These last few sources are in Mandarin.

@WhinyTheYounger: I would like to submit another edit request for a few minor edits to the page. One issue is that the article currently states that the platform was launched on August 31, 2021, but it was actually launched on August 30, 2021 [4] [5] [6]

Given that many large streaming platforms charge regular fees for their services, it's notable that the organization doesn't. It's well documented in secondary sources, as well as in the organization's tagline: [7] [8] [9]. Additionally, the article on NHK World-Japan, a similar platform, includes information about its costs.

Articles on similar platforms like aforementioned NHK World-Japan, Arirang TV, and France 24, among others, all include details about their availability on local channels. Therefore I suggest that this article also add information about TaiwanPlus' availability, for example : “The platform’s flagship news program airs three times a day on CTS Main Channel[1], as well as on the TaiwanPlus app and website." If it's more customary to listen the channel number, CTS is Channel 18 in Taiwan.

Founding date and broadcast info[edit]

I would like to submit another edit request to attract attention to a for a few minor edits to the page, listed above and pasted here:

One issue is that the article currently states that the platform was launched on August 31, 2021, but it was actually launched on August 30, 2021 [10] [11] [12]

Move[edit]

@Bilorv: the two names for the outlet are TaiwanPlus (one word) and Taiwan+... Both are used and I know thats confusing but Taiwan Plus with a space is what you moved this page to so you must be really confused! Please consider this to be a formal challenge to your move, per policy you must now self revert and open a discussion where you will attempt to gain consensus for your move. I moved the page per the request of a COI editor above, which I saw as uncontroversial, but made an error in spacing. I would support a move to TaiwanPlus over Taiwan Plus, but both names are currently used by the outlet so there is nothing wrong with Taiwan+. The request above appears to be inaccurate in its assertion that they changed their name, both are still clearly featured on their home page [16]. @Horse Eye's Back: I am the COI editor who originally requested that the page be moved from Taiwan+ to TaiwanPlus. In all of the organization's press releases since December, "Taiwan+" is no longer used [17] [18] [19]. "Taiwan+" has also been removed from the platform's "About Us" page [20]. While the "+' is still visible as part of the logo design, "Taiwan+" in text is no longer used, therefore I propose that the page be moved to "TaiwanPlus" to help reduce confusion.Rchouman (talk) 09:04, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Horse Eye's Back: Hi, any update on this? I have located several secondary sources outside of the company's own website and press releases that verify "Taiwan+" is no longer used [21] [22] [23]. The sources are in Chinese as domestic media has covered the organization more than international media, but because TaiwanPlus has no Chinese name, the shift is very visible on each of the sources.  Done The above sources are generally not useful (Businesswire being straight PR, Epoch times being deprecated due to its blatant disinformation) but they suffice in this context to show that the name change is indeed a thing, since they're not being cited in the article. COI Edit Request: TV Channel Launch[edit]

I'd like to submit an edit request to correct some outdated/incorrect information on the page and update it following the platform's addition of a terrestrial TV channel. I have disclosed a COI on my talk page.

Suggested changes for the infobox:

1. Change CEO to Acting CEO and Joanne Tsai to Michael Yu. Joanne Tsai is no longer CEO of the platform. Michael Yu currently heads the organization under the title of "Acting CEO", via this article [3] and this press release. [4]

Suggested changes for the intro section:

The second sentence indicates that TaiwanPlus "collates local and international news stories from both public and private Taiwanese media” I'm not sure if collate is the most accurate term as all news aired on the platform is originally produced TaiwanPlus. Therefore the sources of its stories coming from “public and private Taiwanese media” doesn’t seem relevant to me, as the source itself is a public media. I would suggest replacing it with: “The platform provides international and local news and programming centered on Taiwan.” This more closely reflects the platform's About Us page on their website. 3. The second sentence indicates that the platform was on “soft launch,” however, this is not indicated in the news piece they provided as a source and should be removed. Finally, while the platform was scheduled to launch on October 10 when the article they referenced was published, it was actually launched on October 3, 2021. [8] Therefore I suggest that the second sentence is revised to: “The platform officially launched its 24/7 broadcast on October 3, 2022.”
