Birthdate discrepancy
[edit]Two different birthdates are given in this article; 1599 and 1615; which is correct?--FeanorStar7 (talk) 10:20, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
Apparently that has been fixed.Poihths (talk) 19:49, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
Name spelling
[edit]The article as I come upon it spells the man's name two different ways. That seems silly to me. We give the variant spellings at the top of the article. That should suffice. The rest of the article should use one standard spelling. I've standardized on the spelling used in the title. Poihths (talk) 19:49, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
Title of article
[edit]I am not sure that this title is the best way of disambiguating him from his current descendant, since he is actually "of the Binns" as well. "General Tam Dalyell" might be better. PatGallacher (talk) 19:22, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
- The General was the first T.D.o.t.B. of note though. I think the incumbent Laird of the Binns is more readily recognisable as plain "Tam Dalyell". I may be wrong, but territorial designations do not seem to be much in use, in the common parlance of the present, and certainly the past 'father of the house' does not use such.
