Taroa Airfield[edit]

Does anyone know more about this airfield? It is a part of history and would be good to enlarge the article.--helping make wiki better- dagurlwonder 03:00, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have plenty of aerial photos of Taroa from the bombing campaign, starting in October of 43, all of the JCPOA-ATBs and I've made trips there in 2001and one in 2014. I take exception to the statement that the Japanese abandoned it on 2/5/1944. The 252nd Kokutai moved the pilots without aircraft to fly to Mili Airbase before that, they were evacuated by G4M1 Betty Bombers, G3M2 Nells and H8K Emily flying boats. All of the other personnel, including all 6th Naval Defense Force troops, their commander, Admiral Soichi Kamada and the aviation maintenance and repair soldiers were abanonded there and spent the rest of the war on Taroa and the island next to it, Airuk, where the barracks were located. 40% of them died from either enemy action or starvation by the time of the surrender. 2601:647:837F:D620:ED55:D84:FD7F:65B5 (talk) 20:21, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal[edit]

I am proposing to merge Taroa Airfield into Maloelap Airport. Taroa Airfield is the name of the airstrip during WWII. The Taroa material should be a History section in Maloelap Airport, with a redirect from Taroa Airfield, of course. Any objections? -Canglesea (talk) 19:48, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
