crown of field at texas statium

The Cowboys will be moving to a brand new stadium located in Arlington, Texas for the 2009 season. Funded mostly by taxes but partially by Jerry Jones, the stadium will be state-of-the-art. It is outrageously expensive.

Was a Stadium?

Is it correct to change the first sentence to "Texas Stadium WAS...", as 1: The Cowboys won't play in the stadium anymore, 2: After the last Texas High School Playoff games are played, the stadium will no longer be used to host sporting events, and 3: I really want to say Texas Stadium WAS.. First game played in Texas Stadium

In 1971, not sure what date, I attended the Texas high school 4A state championship between Wichita Falls High School and San Antonio Lee. As I remember, this was before any professional games were played there.

Football-only post-cookie-cutter era

The article mentions the stadiums for the Patriots, Bills, Chiefs, and Lions that were built as football-only at this time. It doesn't mention Giants Stadium (1976), though I think that would also fit.

Some mention there of how the situations were different than the cookie-cutter era multipurpose stadiums would I think be useful. It mentions the Merger, and so there are capacity demands and lighting requirements that forced the Bears out of Wrigley Field as well as these moves. Texas Stadium and Rich Stadium were both built in markets without Major League Baseball (the Rangers arrived the next year but in Arlington). Schafer Stadium, Giants Stadium, and the Pontiac Silverdome were all built for post-Merger NFL teams where they formerly (like the Bears) shared space in a jewel-box-era baseball stadium (Fenway Park, pre-renovation Yankee Stadium, and Tiger Stadium, respectively).
