Notability[edit]

This isn't really notable outside of the KC Metro, but most people in the metro have probably heard of it, which is around 4-5 million people iirc. The mall itself probably gets at least a couple hundred thousand customers a year. Anyway, I'm going to put some links here both to show notability, and to hopefully incorporate them as references later. Expanded[edit]

I just finished adding a lot more information to this mall; it seems to be rather notable indeed! There are still a few gaps in this article though; perhaps someone could help? Specifically, I'm looking for:

  • Closure dates of Old Navy, Off 5th
  • Opening dates for Steve & Barry's, Famous Labels
  • Opening and closure dates of DSW Shoe Warehouse
  • More info on mall's downfall
  • Cancelled anchor? (there's one hole in the mall where an anchor should've been built)
  • Which anchors became which (i. e., what replaced Off 5th, Marshalls, Linens 'n Things)
  • Did Steve & Barry's move at some point?

Any help is appreciated. Ten Pound Hammer(Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsReview?) 03:50, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sugar covered zombie jesus you took a lot of interest in this, considering you're in Michigan! Thanks for doing all that... I could ask my friend about this, but it wouldn't be reliable for Wikipedia's purposes. What are you talking about with the "hole where an anchor should've been"? I've been all over the mall, in the service exits and everything, and I can't think of anywhere there would be an anchor where there isn't already, unless it's that big maintenance hallway thing, but considering that's right in the middle of the mall I can't think of how the heck they would give it a store front. --Lucid 04:35, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the delay -- The "hole anchor" is at the bottom left of this map, below spaces 185 and 190. It looks like they planned an anchor store there but nothing ever came. Ten Pound Hammer(Broken clamshellsOtter chirps) 17:28, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I corrected information regarding Dillards' store in the mall. The clearance store was listed as the first one in the chain which was not correct information. The clearance store actually moved from Indian Springs Mall in Kansas City, KS. Bsf436 (talk) 23:55, 22 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's Not Completely Closed[edit]

I removed the statement from the overview about the driver's license bureau being closed. It's still open. See http://www.ksrevenue.org/dmvstations.html#joh. The Burlington Coat Factory is also still open. It's been hard to find good sources, but I'll add what I can find. I was there last week, but I know that's original research.Jayscore (talk) 18:42, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There's been some confusion in the local press about the closing of the mall and where this impacts businesses that are on pad sites surrounding the mall. I tried to clarify this in the article, but I'm not totally happy with the result. I'm open to suggestions if anyone has better ideas how to state which businesses remain. Burlington Coat Factory is still open, but that might be it - the DMV moved a few months ago. However, most of the other things listed as "still open" in the article aren't part of the mall (Chili's, 54th Street Grill & Bar, etc). I'm not sure if they're managed by the same group as the mall, but they're on satellite parcels out by the road, far from the corpse of the mall proper. They all still seem to do enough business, so my guess is even if the mall building is flattened, the restaurants and hotels will stay. ak (talk) 21:08, 30 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
