Crowdfunded[edit]

Hi Dissident93; I've left the crowdfunding line there for the moment, but I don't believe either source is appropriate - The first source doesn't mention crowdfunding, while the second is some sort of blog with some level of editorial control? In any case, it's reliability appears to be questionable.

I have found two other sources calling it crowdfunded; one, an ESPN article, does so only in passing, while another, a Venture Beat article does so in more detail, but with an asterisk, stating that it is technically ... crowdfunding.

As such, I believe there is sufficient evidence to mention it as being crowdfunded, but I also believe in order to ensure balance we need to include the incentives for the crowdfunding, specifically that people are doing it as much for rewards as they are to help out the tournaments. With that said, I'm not quite sure how to do that, as I don't quite understand what these rewards are, hence why I am coming here where you can hopefully assist in this, rather than doing it myself. The rewards are all in-game cosmetics, such as character skins and voice pack replacements, that are tied to levels within the battle pass. 25% of all revenue made by sales of the battle pass (which includes level boosters) goes directly into the prize pool. So while it may not be the usual type of crowdfunding, there are still sources that consider it to be as such. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 10:57, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
