Fair use rationale for Image:IrrawaddyMeg.gif
[edit]Image:IrrawaddyMeg.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:31, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Is it circulated in Burma?
[edit]Is this magazine circulated in Burma? One would expect the article to indicate whether or not, since it is a Burmese news magazine that is printed outside of Burma, which has a regime that closely monitors the media.--128.139.104.49 (talk) 10:03, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
- The 7 June 1996 act — The Law Protecting the Peaceful and Systematic Transfer of State Responsibility and the Successful Performance of the Functions of the National Convention against Disturbances and Oppositions would make the dissemination of The Irrawaddy illegal in Myanmar. Chapter II (3a) of this law prohibits inciting, demonstrating, delivering speeches, making oral or written statements and disseminating in order to undermine the stability of the State, community peace and tranquility and prevalence of law and order. --Bejnar (talk) 22:26, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
The Irrawaddy opened up a Yangon bureau in 2012. None of this is reflected in the article at present, I've started updating but hopefully someone with more knowledge of the mag than I can come in and fill in the gaps, the history seems to stop at 2011. 10:43, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
Original research
[edit]In November 2010, this article was marked by Lihaas as possibly containing original research. Lihaas indicated no specific sections as containing the original research, nor did Lihaas request citations for any specific facts. Nonetheless, some text like the sentence: It is frequently cited by international media outlets as a source of reliable information. would seem to cry out for substantiation. Of course much of this information, like the content of that sentence, came from the magazine's own webpage. In the absence of the identification of specific problems, I have removed the charge of OR. Please feel free to request citations for contentious material, or to mark whole sections as OR, so long as you identify the specific problems. --Bejnar (talk) 22:26, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
Cyber warfare
[edit]I've added more info on the hoax news story.
To Okkar... It's fair game to point out the Irrawaddy's shortcomings--there are many. Write about its narrow minded editorial bias, dogmatic viewpoints, lazy journalism, etc. Put in proper citations. Fair game. But to use what most reasonable people would consider to be a case of hacked web site to score cheap points? I'd personally be embarrassed to be associated with that kind of a hatchet job. If you really want to make a point, do some homework, and contribute. And please, assume good faith. And take a deep breath. With metta. Hybernator (talk) 23:12, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
Seconding the above — it's quite clear from the 2011-12 edit history that a number of edits have been made by one or two people with a clear axe to grind with the Irrawaddy, this is demonstrable even from the edit summaries ("(→Cyber-warfare: The cited link shows how unprofessional Irrawaddy is..I regret wasting time in reading their news"). Whatever shortcomings the Irrawaddy has, these have systematically been made prominent while positive or neutral aspects of the organisation have been edited out. The bias in this article is stunning and the whole thing needs an overhaul. Dadcore, 10:37, 30 January 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.248.101.40 (talk)
