"The Lions" Name[edit]

I'm interested to know where this name came from. Growing up, I've always known them (Englishly) as "The Sisters". The Skwxwu7mesh relates to the history of the mountains with the Indigenous peoples, and how the two mountains are two sisters. In Skwxwu7mesh language, they are Ch'ich'iyu'y Elxwi'kn. Information to be added, yes? I'll add this to the list of things to ask about from my elders and written/oral history on these mountains. OldManRivers 06:19, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: I honestly rarely hear it called the lions anymore. feels like this page should be renamed, and the lion name should be a footnote rather than the current state — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rowankoe (talkcontribs) 01:07, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Seconding that the page should be renamed. Have lived in Vancouver for several years and have never heard it called The Lions without contextualization as an older, colonial-era name. Colloquially it's always 'The Two Sisters'. Hitoubashira (talk) 17:22, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

origin (maybe) of name[edit]

I remembered that Pauline Johnson was somehow involved, so I googled around. Voila:

Seems they resemble the Landseer Lions in Trafalgar Square. LDH 03:23, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Need for Rock Climbing gear???[edit]

The west lion does not "require rock climbing equipment and expertise." It is a scramble, having one "difficult" move on it where you have to be careful, and is a class 3. This means no technical skills or equipment are required. The East Lion is another matter. Tsylos (talk) 21:28, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Recommendation/Correction[edit]

I agree with Tsylos... The West Lion does not require rock-climbing equipment; however, it does require experience climbing or mountaineering as well as proper footwear and even a helmet.

No citations[edit]

I was interested to learn the approximate age of The Lions but the section calling it "the oldest" plutonic rock has no citation. 2600:1010:B197:47BB:0:24:681E:AC01 (talk) 18:15, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
