My thoughts on the article

[edit]

I was asked on my talkpage to give my thoughts on the article and how I felt it could be improved. I've read through the article a few times and below are the specific items that I could come up with:

  1. In the lead, it is stated that the journal has the "largest circulation" of any in the world. What is its actual circulation? I feel like that should be included somewhere. Later you give broad estimates of 6000 and 3000, but that is from the publisher of the journal.... which doesn't truly qualify as a third party source.
  2. "...hosts symposia on topics relating to urban law and policy..." What is this symposia.... What topics are covered? Where, when, why etc?
  3. "The journal also...." starts two sentences in the overview section.
  4. American Bar Association is Wiki-linked three times.... I believe WP:MOS says we should only do this on the first instance. Same for land use but only twice.
  5. File:At the Cutting Edge 2014 Cover.jpg does not meet WP:NFCC. Specifically #8. The image of the cover does not increase the reader's understanding of the content, nor would the article hurt without it. We make a sort of exception for this point of WP:NFCC for covers, but only one and when its used in the infobox.
  6. In the compendium section, leaders is mentioned three times back to back to back. These two sentences could be written better.
  7. How often is the compendium published?
  8. "In 2014, the journal was called a "hidden gem" of the JSTOR archive.[9]" By whom? What is her credentials? She looks like a College Junior who is interning at JSTOR, so I wouldn't give that comment any credence especially since the source is an opinion piece that reads like a blog.
  9. Tighten up the sources, they are duplicated in the references section. Each source should only be listed once, but can be used many times.

Overall its a fairly informative article. I'm not sure that there is much more information available about this subject, so that can become confining. Good luck. TLSuda (talk) 00:47, 8 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @TLSuda: thanks so much for your detailed and comprehensive feedback! You really have a unique talent for identifying ways in which an article can be improved. I will go ahead and implement your suggestions -- in fact, I already went ahead and removed File:At the Cutting Edge 2014 Cover.jpg from the article (for not meeting WP:NFCC). Since you are an administrator, could you please delete the original image file from Wikipedia?
I tried to find a neutral source for the actual circulation total, but I wasn't able to locate anything. The the ABA website lists the circulation total at 4,500, but this is also not a neutral source. I also tried searching for their USPS Statement of Ownership, Management and Circulation, but apparently those aren't available online. In any case, I will keep looking, and thank you again for taking the time to offer your thoughts for this article! -- Notecardforfree (talk) 17:09, 8 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
