Photos

[edit]

I removed a few beautiful closeup photos of animals at the sanctuary, and replaced them with wider shots of the sanctuary. I also created a category for the sanctuary on Commons and linked it, and categorized those photos, so they are always visible through the Commons link in the External links section. I left one wonderful shot of wolves which was obviously taken from above on the walkway. This article is not about individual animals, but about the sanctuary, and I'm trying to show the scope of the sanctuary in the photos I add. Whoever took those animal shots obviously has a better camera than I, and is probably a better photographer. If you can take better photos of the same scope and type, showing the sanctuary, please feel free to replace mine.

One of the photos (if you did not read the caption) looked like a performing bear. Probably not good for a sanctuary like this, even with the disclaimer in the caption. First impressions count, even in an encyclopedia. Not everyone will read the captions. Don Lammers (talk) 14:33, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Acreage

[edit]

The site is now 720 acres. Unfortunately, they have removed old acreage stats from the Web site (no sense of history, I guess). I can do the subtraction and deduce that they had 320 acres prior to the 2011 purchase (720 now - 400 new = 320 original), but the Readers Digest article pointed to in the article says 160 acres (in 2007), and I found another reference to 140 acres at about that time. I'm guessing that the original land area was 320 acres, and that the 140 and 160 figures are exhibit areas, but that's just a guess. It would sure be nice if I could find a bit more detail on this. If anyone has details we can cite, please post them here. Don Lammers (talk) 14:23, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
