Early talk

[edit]

We currently have a non-standard disambiguation here, with Titan redirecting to Titan (mythology). We should either have the disambig at Titan, or make Titan (mythology) the primary topic by moving it to Titan. I suspect there will be far more people looking for the moon at present and for the forseeable future due to its prominence in the news. I'm in favour of equal disambiguation but it needs an admin to move Titan (disambiguation) to Titan. — Trilobite (Talk) 13:22, 15 Jan 2005 (UTC)

It is odd that Titan is a redirect to a disambiguated page (currently the moon) rather than being either a disambiguation page itself or a non-redirected page. I second moving this page to Titan, as no single primary topic stands out. A-giau 00:19, 16 Jan 2005 (UTC)
If that's the case someone has changed the redir at Titan since I posted my original message. This has made even more of a mess. I wish those who hold the privilege of being admins would actually be of some use. The disambiguation page needs moving to Titan. I will do it using copy and paste if no admin can be bothered. — Trilobite (Talk) 09:52, 16 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Titan is also the name of another game not listed.

[edit]

Titian is also the name of another game not listed, how can i create a new page for this game when there already is one that is named exactly the same? I added it at the bottom of the list under "Gaming", but with no link, obviously.

Best thing to do is find out when it was released and then make a page called Titan (2002 computer game) or whatever. The Singing Badger 14:08, 22 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Gundam series

[edit]

In the popular anime series, Zeta Gundam, the main antagonists are called the Titans. They're essentially a military organisation that uses ruthless tactics to supress any potential spacenoid rebellions. One extreme example is the Bunch 30 incident where the Titans used a lethal gas called G3 to murder a group of protesters which also killed the entire population of the colony.

There is no page on Wikipedia about the giant longhorn beetle the Titan beetle, which is surprising. It's (apparently) the largest beetle in the world, and can cut through human flesh with its mandibles(!) I added a link from this page. Here are a few articles about it in case someone wants to write about it:

Uranus/Titan

[edit]

To the best of my knowledge, Uranus is never called "Titan", and is not in fact classed among the Titans. The one of the Titans who is commonly referred to as "Titan" is Helios, the Sun-god. I am changing the disambig to reflect this. RandomCritic 01:11, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Moon?

[edit]

Titan is a moon of Saturn right? It says the in brackets so its not sattilite technically. Stabby Joe 01:03, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Afghan place?

[edit]

I noticed that EJF has added Titan, Afghanistan to the list recently. I don't know if the place really exist or it is just a hoax but if it does, please put a link to the article or at least to the article of the province it is located in.--Remitonova (talk) 08:19, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dups

[edit]

I think it makes sense to have the moon and myth articles as they are at the top. Someone recently added the moon also in the Science section. I think this also makes sense as well since someone used to "standard" dab pages might miss the items at the top - and for consistency I have made sure the Myth item is in two places as well. (also restored the Helios articles as he is called Titan as well). (John User:Jwy talk) 23:15, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Insert non-formatted text here

Using another such extended disambiguation page, Sports teams named Trojans as a template, I created the extended disambiguation page Sports teams named Titans. Both are used as mascots by high schools in my area of Indiana. I even got the scholastic section started by inserting the Indiana institutions that use the name, like Indiana University South Bend. Doing it this way will allow room for the dozens of High Schools that use the name.

Technology

[edit]

@Bkonrad: What is clearer as a seprate category? [1] I did find it confusing that vehicles are no part of technology. That was the reason why I didn't find what I was looking for. --Der-Wir-Ing (talk) 10:59, 11 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit created a number of problems. First, you accidentally removed all the entries under "Natural sciences". Second, "Transportation" as a subject area can encompass entries that are not technologies, like TITAN Salvage, which is a company, not a technology. Third, there should never be a subject-area section below "Other uses", like you did with "Sports teams". Per MOS:DAB and WP:LONGDAB, the only section after "Other uses" should be "See also". For readers expecting to find vehicles under technology, there is a hatnote at the very top of that section to direct you. —swpbT • go beyond • bad idea 15:19, 11 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
