The writing on the article is really poor and without the encyclopedic tone of Wikipedia. Can anyone that is an expert polish this up? 173.89.238.44 (talk) 03:23, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Update

[edit]

TIV may have intercepted a tornado, finally. Link from fark to a blog. I'll look for other sources. http://bigstormpicture.blogspot.com/2009/06/vortex-day-6.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.197.252.79 (talk) 05:03, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"The TIV weighs approximately 16,000 pounds fully loaded and is powered by a 7.3-liter Ford Power Stroke turbodiesel producing 2 horsepower (1.5 kW)"... 2 horsepower? 2? More like 250. http://7pt3powerstrokediesel.com/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.219.31.100 (talk) 01:00, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Removed for now. Thanks for spottng ths. –Juliancolton | Talk 02:11, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Dominator is not a TIV. The TIV is a specific vehicle made to film with an IMAX camera. Removing Dominator info. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.166.249.229 (talk) 05:00, 17 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • You will need to provide better justification for removing a large amount of content. Your personal opinion as to whether or not the Dominator should be included on this page is irrelevant. One could just as easily claim that "TIV" is simply a generic term for any vehicle which is modified for tornado intercepting so it can go both ways. Please try to back up your position with sources. --Rapier108 (talk) 03:37, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The definition of a Tornado Intercept Vehicle is a vehicle built to film using an IMAX camera from inside of a tornado. Reed Timmer's Dominator is not used to film or record video in any format from inside of tornadoes. Thus it deserves its own article.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.166.249.229 (talk) 22:30, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The ip user is correct. The name Tornado Intercept Vehicle belongs to Sean Casey. He specifically built 2 vehicles to drive into tornadoes to film from the core in IMAX format. Reed Timmer put sheet metal on a Tahoe to withstand winds near tornadoes. His goal is not to drive into tornadoes.--jms011 (talk) 03:45, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There. I have gone thru and cleaned up the article and added more references. That should make everyone happy. --jms011 (talk) 04:15, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not a site for fans of the TIV/Sean Casey to give their opinions and edit articles based on that. You still have not provided any reason to remove the Dominator from the article other than an OPINION. All of your sources were just added information about TIV/TIV2; none of which supports your position of blanking an entire section of the article. I will ask to have your blanking reviewed as you have not justified doing it. --Rapier108 (talk) 04:56, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

RFC: TVN Dominator

[edit]

An anonymous editor began removing an entire section from Tornado Intercept Vehicle without explanation other than basically saying "it doesn't belong here." It has been restored and removed a couple more times, now with another editor backing up (or possibly the same person) the anonymous one who started removing the material. The section being removed is about the TVN Dominator, but so far no real justification is given other than "it doesn't belong here since it doesn't have a IMAX camera." It really sounds more like a Storm Chasers fan giving his personal opinion rather than any basis in fact. When asked for sources, the only thing provided is information about the TIV and TIV2; nothing that justifies removing an entire section of the article. A discussion would hopefully resolve this before it deevolves into an edit war. --Rapier108 (talk) 05:11, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Timmer's Dominator should have its own article since it's a storm research vehicle not a storm intercept vehicle. He said on CNN they're not out to drive into tornadoes only to get next to them and get radar data. --jms011 (talk) 13:07, 04 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Then it is your job to back it up rather than just say it is true and expect everyone to believe it. If you want your edits to stand, including blanking huge sections of an article, you cannot simply say "just because." You have to provide sources, and not just sources about the TIV. You must show why something should not be included. --Rapier108 (talk) 03:18, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment Before the dispute can be resolved the editors need to decide what this article is all about. Does it refer only to vehicles designed for one TV show? If so it is barely notable enough for inclusion without references to show that the term is in general use. If it is a 'one show' article it should probably be removed as being overly commercial.
If, on the other hand, the article, is intended to refer to tornado interception and investigation vehicles in general it should include vehicles with slightly different approaches and objectives. Martin Hogbin (talk) 12:07, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
True, and as a side note to that point, the TIV1 and TIV2 will be in the upcoming IMAX movie, Tornado Alley, so it will be seen outside of the TV show. Just an additional point to add to the discussion. --74.192.39.182 (talk) 06:04, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reference format

[edit]

I'd like to change the references to use citation templates. The main reason for this change would be to be able to use the reflinks tool, which automatically fills in some of the information for bare URLs. Does anyone object to this change? -- JTSchreiber (talk) 05:16, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox

[edit]

The infobox only shows the details of TIV 1, when the article is about both 1 and its successor. R-athrill (talk) 20:30, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Height wrong

[edit]

The TIV 1 and TIV 2 are NOT 14 feet tall. They wouldn’t clear the overpasses on the highways without special permits, and specific routing. Neither of those conditions are good for storm chasing. The standard semi is 13’6” tall. The TIVs are not taller, or a tornado would blow them over. 107.127.0.16 (talk) 18:08, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
