What measurement is the actual gauge?

Silly question, obviously - but if you don't know you don't know! I'm guessing it's the distance between the inner faces of the two running rails? (not, for example, between the midlines of the rails? or their outer faces? or the distance between the outer faces of the wheel-flanges? which is presumably slightly less? or of the wheels?) 86.139.76.80 (talk) 16:53, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
