Somehow, I find it impossible that a German submarine company's "U-Boat" name had NOTHING to do with World War I and II German military submarines being called U-boot, short for Unterseeboot ('under-sea-boat'), which was anglicized as U-boat. Is the hokey explanation an effort to prevent an association with Nazis? I would have thought most of the world is beyond that by now, especially since the U-boat service was pretty well isolated from the darker aspects of the Nazi regime.
