The link does not work. "The server at www.nvr.navy.mil is taking too long to respond." Maybe its just temporary? I know the cache on Google has it, but that was last retrieved the 14th. I haven't been able to get it for the last hour. Do you have to be on a military base or something? It should be removed if it is not available to all wikipdians.R00m c (talk) 02:10, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
- Check your internet connection. It is working just fine for me and has all night. --Dual Freq (talk) 02:13, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
- If my internet connection was not working I would not be able to post here. But anyway, we will see if it is just temporary. I will try again after a few days. R00m c (talk) 02:37, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
- Your provider may have a router down or there maybe some router somewhere down the line from you that is not functioning correctly. When I click the link it comes up very fast, and I've never visited Berkeley's NVR page until today. I've also looked up several other ships during the last few hours and there is nothing special about my internet connection. --Dual Freq (talk) 02:46, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
- It is good to know that it is not a special military connection that allows access. It is also good to know that its not the servers. The best thing to do is wait a while and see what happens. If some thing is down, in a few days it should come up. If it is not up in a few days then we will know the problem is not temporary and the link should be removed because it is only available to about half of internet users. But until then, the link should stay so that it will be there when things work once again. R00m c (talk) 03:17, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
I have to admit, I've never had to convince anyone that it was a connection problem on their end before. Netcraft reports that the site is up http://www.nvr.navy.mil was running unknown on Windows Server 2003 when last queried at 20-Dec-2007 03:47:13 GMT. The problem is with your computer, or your internet provider. There is no temporary problem, unless it is with your system or provider. Could be a DNS problem, a proxy or web filtering. Type http://www.nvr.navy.mil into the Alertra spotcheck tool and you'll see that it works from all over the world. --Dual Freq (talk) 03:55, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
- I guess I am wrong about it being down to about half the internet. But we don't really know how many people this affects. My computer is a typical set up and install of most internet users, so its not that. Every other web site works but this one; including military and government related sites. There is no proxy or web filtering at my ISP. It is not DNS as 204.34.153.23 also times out. Like you said it is probably a router down somewhere. We don't really know though, all we know is I cant get to the server because it times out in sending the packets back. http://network-tools.com/default.asp?prog=trace&host=204.34.153.23 confirms my time out.R00m c (talk) 04:36, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
