By the end of the year half of the national team ran away to Russia, switching their citizenship in hope to be included in the team that would make to the finals in the United States

is what this article now claims, but looking at the players wiki-articles only 4 of the players mentioned on this page played for that Russian team. Am I too believe they switched in vain? All the players on this page except 1 are described as Ukrainian football players on there wiki-page.
