It should be noted that removing someone from the People of Note section just you do not agree with them in anyway is not ethical. Just because you do not like someone does not mean they are not a person of note and open this page top people removing certain people for purely personal reasons. • It should be noted that Dan Savage no longer lives on Vashon. I attempted to remove him to make the page more accurate. If you want to have a section of notable people who have *lived* on Vashon then create that and move him there. Although I admire Dan and his writing, I do wonder how much he contributed to Vashon Island and its community in the short (<2 years) time he lived on Vashon. Where do you draw the line? If you have a "notable people who lived here" section, do you also have a "notable people who have visited" section?

Hi, this is Eric Francis and I've actually come to the talk page to discuss this issue. We have not defined notable, but international publication and political activism usually counts for a little. While I only lived there for about four years, my company is indeed based on Vashon, it was founded there, I have many friends on the island, and I consider myself part of the community. I am also published regularly in the local paper and have been continuously for years. Removing my name seems arbitrary and mean, indeed, it seems personal and that is not the point of Wikipedia.

I would add, Dan Savage belongs there as well. Many people associate his name with Vashon. He is certainly someone who has made an international contribution as well as a local one.

Note to Paul Seibert

It appears Paul Seibert inserted a rather lengthy promotional bio on himself into the "people of note" section. I cut it to a short line, and I wonder if even that belongs there at all. I'm sure he's recognized in the field of financial facilities design and management, but, at the risk of offending, it's a mighty esoteric field. At the very least, if Betty MacDonald and Booth Gardner get a single (short) line each, then a long bio seems excessive.

Largest Island in Puget Sound?

Who wrote the history sections? The opener and paragraphs that follow are certainly written with a liberal slant. Should be removed or re-written without bias.

"If you have a child that does not mind being molested vashon is a perfect place. Racial issues and drugs are prevalent. Arrogance and domestic abuse is a favorite pass time of much of the community, along with excessive drinking and rape. Depending on the color of the suspects skin, most crime go unreported. Hispanics and black are welcome to a degree, as long as they can accommodate the "white makes right" attitude. Most crimes go unreported due to fear of retaliation by locals. CDP or Town?

So is Vashon now a Census Designated Place, i.e. unincorporated King County, or is it a town, i.e. a small, second-tier municipality? It is listed both in List of towns in Washington and in List of CDPs in Washington, but the formatting seems to suggest that at some point between 2010 and 2013 it crossed the threshold into townhood. This article says it is a CDP, but that may be outdated information. --Haruo (talk) 08:59, 20 May 2016 (UTC)

Vashon is considered a CDP or Unincorporated by the state's standards but is referred to in public as a town. The town itself uses king county services such as the sharif instead of having its own police. It also doesn't have a mayor or any form of representation in King County outside of joining smaller forums. *Note I live on the island itself, have all my life. Notable residents

A huge chunk of the notable references is unsourced. A lot of the information comes from local information ("everybody knows" that Alex Borstein lived on the island for a little while, for example) but I don't think that's good enough. I'm adding a few more sources where I can find them (ex: Booth Gardner), but I don't intend to look through them all. I see some discussion from 14 years ago earlier on the talk page.
