Location of Veii[edit]

I've looked at every map I could lay hands on at maximum expansion and as far as I can tell the plateau surrounded by the remains of the ancient city wall does not lie within Formello. It is in Isola Farnese, which for whatever reasons is part of Municipio XX of Rome. What Rome is doing so far north I do not know but being from the original gerrymander region myself I can well appreciate it. Municipio XX is quite jagged and even contains a detached island around the volcano. A jagged tooth of Formello extends to the south and no doubt includes many Etruscan antiquities but not, as far as I can see, the plateau, which is even further south. So I am going to change this and the Formello article. No doubt Formello is within the ancient city-state of Veii but not the walled city itself. If anyone knows differently by all means enlighten us and correct the article. I note that Rome keeps changing itself and even not too long ago lost a big chunk of continuous land when a whole urban district voted to become independent. But one of the advantages of Wikipedia is that it stays current (when not in error) so by all means fix this if the maps are now wrong or out of date.Dave (talk) 12:59, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Date of Conquest[edit]

The Date of the conquest by the romans may be wrong. Ogilvie, Early Rome and the Etruscans, says that probably Veii fell in 392 BC, not 396 or 406, and he has good reasons for this. We should not believe in each single word in Livy. --Dlugacz (talk) 08:59, 19 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Good point, especially since the date 396 BC is not referenced at all, and is not even dealt with in any detail (ie. there is no detail of how it was conquered, or what led to the conquest, etc etc). You should add a paragraph on whatever you know.--Urg writer (talk) 00:43, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
