This article is terrible[edit]

"This is not a good article. It is a bad article." It is as bad as it can be. Two references and so much white space. Truly awful.--andreasegde (talk) 23:35, 26 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • There are simple grammatical errors "But Cobbett's heart was in music. ... we don't start sentences with "but".. ill try to clean this out.. TheNYCdan (talk) 11:35, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the pointer. I know they teach that at Stuyvesant High School, but, in fact, it is wrong. It is perfectly permissible to begin a sentence with "but". I refer you to this article, which is a pretty comprehensive review of the issue. --Ravpapa (talk) 12:51, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Extensive revision, Sept 2023[edit]

There was a lot of confusion between the Cobbett Competition prize (for chamber music composition, from 1905) and the Cobbett Medal, which has its own separate entry. I've tried to clarify that in both articles, and have started to go through links to other articles to make sure they are re-directed to the correct source. I've still not found a definitive list of competition winners, especially more recent winners, and it's not clear to me when the prize ceased to be given. A New Cobbett Prize was instigated by the Berkeley Ensemble in 2014, but doesn't appear to be a continuing thing. The medal is still awarded every year.
