Welcome, I am the grandson of the subject of this article. I believe that my grandfather easily meets the notability requirements, you'll see that his death and accomplishments were widely reported nationwide: https://www.nytimes.com/2001/12/12/us/wendell-gauthier-58-dies-lawyer-in-big-damage-suits.html https://www.baltimoresun.com/news/bs-xpm-2001-12-12-0112120190-story.html
In longer form, he is an important figure in several books on his cases: Cornered: Big Tobacco at the Bar of Justice Outgunned: Up Against the NRA Up in Smoke: From Legislation to Litigation in Louisiana Politics Suing the Gun Industry: A Battle at the Crossroads of Gun Control and Mass Torts Insurrection: Citizen Challenges to Corporate Power
Additionally, and this is subject to additional verification, but it seems fairly obvious that John Grisham's Runaway Jury, a #1 New York Times Bestseller, is based on the tobacco case.
I'm only motivated by scholarly curiosity and not interested in promoting my grandfather or the law firm that still bears his name. I'll need (and request) help to create a neutral article but even my grandfather was quoted to say (in the New York times obituary) that he was not "a good Samaritan" and I'm not interested in making him out to be a hero either.
