The link to the Military Horse seems to be "under construction" on all it's pages. Just FYI to the author. Soltera 15:41, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Fitting
[edit]I wonder, that there is nothing about saddle fitting like here and the problems with non-fitting saddles. --Wertzu 08:17, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
- Probably a good idea. I may get around to it eventually if someone else doesn't get to it first. Western saddle fitting has issues different than for English saddles, so hard to just cut and paste. Montanabw 15:49, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
Materials

- Good point. Added a new section. Montanabw(talk) 23:49, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Being a saddle fitter for many years I would like to point out a few facts. The horses Center Of Balance being placed at the withers, jocky´s learned that by leaning forward in front of the Center Of Balance the horse could extend it´s stride forward makeing him run faster, great for short track racing but very tiring for any lenghth of distance. Riggings that place the saddel and rider close or over the horses center of balance will tire the horse unduely as well as there is the risk of "Soreing The Shoulders" where the front fork is over the shoulder blades instead of behind them and back on the wither muskles. This was a very common problem with the McClellans Center Fire Rigging Systom. The Center Fire Systom used on the northern saddles where desendents of the McClellan where as the souther saddles had the Spanish/Mexican influance. A bit more history on the various typ of trees built would be nice in the artikle, like the A-Fork - Slick Fork, Hamley Form Fitter, Widow Maker, Bowman Roper, Assosiacion and the Wade. - I'm all for adding more sources, if you can point us to a book that meets WP:RS on this, I think you have some interesting points worth looking into. But we DO need to start adding sources and footnotes here (the commentary on rigging will definitely need sourcing, for example). Montanabw(talk) 23:22, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
