The names of a couple of parishes in this corner of the world have been confusing a clean search for some time. My own work is genealogical and map based but I do also have books on the railway as a model steam engineer. Until last Friday I had not ACTUALLY picked up the 'railway' spelling since I had standardised on the map version.

being a case in point, and planing related applications using the same spelling. So both spellings are used in different contexts here. I'll expand on the documentation of how the 'mistake' came about on the Talk:Weston-Sub-Edge page Lsces (talk) 07:17, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

We do not name railway station articles after the locality (parish or otherwise), we use the station name that was actually used by the railway company, where possible. Some stations had two or more names at different periods, as with this one: in such cases, we use the current name of the station if it is still open; for closed stations we use the final name at the time of closure. Books such as
  • Butt, R. V. J. (October 1995). The Directory of Railway Stations: details every public and private passenger station, halt, platform and stopping place, past and present (1st ed.). Sparkford: Patrick Stephens Ltd. pp. 43, 246. ISBN 978-1-85260-508-7. OCLC 60251199. OL 11956311M.
list all these names, and relevant dates. Railway atlases (not general maps or atlases) such as
  • Conolly, W. Philip (January 1976). British Railways Pre-Grouping Atlas and Gazetteer (5th ed.). Shepperton: Ian Allan. p. 9, section C5. ISBN 0-7110-0320-3. EX/0176.
give the names as at particular dates, in this case approximately 1921. Or you could try photographic evidence, such as
  • Mitchell, Victor E.; Smith, Keith (October 1998). Country Railway Routes: Stratford upon Avon to Cheltenham. Midhurst: Middleton Press. figs. 40-43. ISBN 1-901706-25-7.
or the timetables reproduced in the "Passenger services" section of the same book. --Redrose64 (talk) 12:19, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
