Seriously? Connor is a billionaire investor and significant vintage car collector and racer. We have a long standing tradition of billionaire BLPs. Gareth E. Kegg (talk) 13:01, 11 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion

[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because it makes two assertions of notability 1) that he is a billionaire 2) that he has an important car collection. Probably meets GNG too. Philafrenzy (talk) 13:03, 11 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  1. ^ This claim was changed in the main prose.
  2. ^ This claim comes from sources which are less than explicit about the birth location of the subject. For this claim to be explicitly made in the article requires that sources be used where the information is explicitly stated.
  3. ^ This part of the edit request proposal cannot be implemented, as the article in question concerns the subject himself — rather than the subject's father — for whom this particular information largely concerns.
  4. ^ This part of the edit request proposal concerns claims made on behalf of USC. Sourcing would ideally be made from that organization, as they are the best positioned to verify whether the subject obtained an MBA from their institution. Undergraduate degrees are typically omitted from Wikipedia articles, although the claim of being a Stanford alumnus was added to the infobox.
  5. ^ This part of the edit request proposal containing the claim of chairman and CEO was added to the article. The claim regarding the size of the business was omitted.
  6. ^ The listing in the infobox of the year of birth in a bifurcated format (1949/1950) is due to the limitations of the Birthdate based on age (as of date) template's software, and cannot be altered unless a more precise citation is used for the date of birth. As previously stated in Note #1, the year of birth was changed to 1949 in the prose of the article.
  7. ^ Claims regarding alumni are usually approved. (See WP:ALUMNI.)
  8. ^ The parameter was changed to read as Chairman, CEO.

At full disclosure, this request of change is from Edelman Hong Kong as the appointed communications agency of William E. Connor & Associates Ltd.. On behalf of our client, we would like to follow up on the response to the requested changes to be made on Mr. Connor’s personal page.

  • To change "American-born" to "American born and raised in Japan". The provided citation explicitly states that Mr. Connor is "born and raised in Japan", proving the original text of "American-born" is definitely incorrect. [1]

  1. Tatler's owners: "EDIPRESSE does not have control over and does not guarantee the truthfulness, accuracy or reliability of any materials posted by other users or endorse any opinions expressed by users on the Site."
  2. The information about the Connors: "Husband of Jacque and father to three sons, he collects and races vintage cars...Jacque is a dedicated mother to three boys, extensively involved in organisations supporting children’s learning ... she shares a love for vintage cars with her husband."
  3. Not being familiar with Tatler and just looking at this text, one could reasonably be forgiven for a belief that the information in Tatler — with its hackneyed prose serving as pastiche of these types of "perfect" profiles — might of been personally submitted by the Connors themselves, and thus, open to the warnings as mentioned by Edipresse above. That should explain my initial caution.
  4. In lieu of anything to the contrary, I've updated the article as requested to indicate the subject's birthplace of Japan. Regards,  spintendo  14:08, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
