In the intro was "The Terrace" really built for railway executives or for railway workers such as porters, signalmen, shunters etc?Spinney Hill (talk) 08:25, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
Having now seen the houses I can see that they are unlikely to have been intended for normal mere employees but I doubt if "executives" would have been a word used for the occupants of the houses when they were builtSpinney Hill (talk) 22:11, 21 September 2020 (UTC).
My own researches which of course cannot be used suggest that a General Engineer of the Kendal and Windermere Railway did not have one of the houses. He was Luke Longbottom who joined the Company in about 1854 and was shown in the 1861 Census as living in Kendal. By 1861 he was Locomotive Superintendent of the Tebay section of the LNWR which would have included the Kendal and Windermere which company the LNW tokk over in 1860.Can anyone help as to who actually lived in these houses.?Spinney Hill (talk) 22:30, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
