Winton or Wynton?

[edit]

I'm pretty sure his name is supposed to be spelled Wynton, but I thought I should check with someone else before changing it, since the title of the article has been spelled with an i for two and a half years. It's very unusual to see such a prominent mistake hang around so long. I feel like I must be missing something, but his name is spelled with a y in several places: Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Blount Cultural Park, Blount Elementary School. The only place other than Wikipedia mirrors where the name is spelled with an i seems to be the USPS website. Does anyone know for sure which is the correct spelling? --TantalumTelluride 00:26, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Try the links in the External link section. Particularly the bio page from his own companies website. They use "Winton".
Try a search for "Winton Blount" on Amazon. You'll get a bunch of results including his own book and other books that mention him. Perhaps "Wynton Blount" is someone else with a similar name. AlistairMcMillan 02:10, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for pointing that out. It's a good thing I brought it up on the talk page before moving the article. I still wonder if all those web pages are about the same person. If they're not, there seems to be two important people from the Montgomery area with very similar names. If they are actually the same person, you'd expect that the Alabama Shakespeare Festival could at least spell his name correctly in return for the $21.5 million he donated. Thanks again. --TantalumTelluride 19:31, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Please check the reason for the two spellings @ encyclopediaofalabama.org. I am a cousin who has studied his ancestry, and included him in my book. Poetree1948 (talk) 17:17, 4 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
