Political affiliation

[edit]

I don't think that the column "political affiliation" in this article is particularly helpful. Judicial elections in the state are non-partisan, though judges often align themselves with conservatives or liberals. In addition, the information in the column is unsourced. I'm in favor of removing that column and instead discussing political leanings in the text.--BaronLarf 05:20, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I am wondering why the column was put in. Thanks-RFD (talk) 13:49, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
However other pages such as the "state supreme court" page reflect the partisanship of its justices even of those that are elected in non-partisan election (e.g. Oregon, Georgia) ->State supreme court#List of state and territorial supreme courts
Another point is that their "affiliation" can definitely be determined through their campagins and endorsments. Maybe the words "political affiliation" shoudn't be used to discribe the justices but I think their should be some from of indication in the tabel.
My last argument would be that if their political leanings are discussed in the text, then you are basically conceding that their "partisanship/political affilation/political leaning" is a reality that could just as well be mentioned by a coulmn.
Therefore I would suggest adding a coulmn and attaching a note to it, that elaborates on the complexity of this topicl. IchAiBims (talk) 09:55, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Liberal/Conservative

[edit]

@Packerfan1996: It feels a little wrong to identify the Justices as "Conservative" or "Liberal" as if it were official. Sure it's de facto, but their ideology isn't something that should be codified. You get what I mean? I may be alone on this but wanted to mention it at least. Nevermore27 (talk) 04:19, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Court Elections and Gerrymandering

[edit]

In recent years, particularly in the 2022 election, there was extensive coverage about the Wisconsin Supreme Court and how dark money poured into the relatively obscure judicial elections is keeping the court conservative, allowing gerrymandering legislation to pass, which in turn results in the entire state having a lower democracy score than the Congo. This article mentions none of that.
