When did the line open?

[edit]

The article only says when *passenger* services began, not when the line was actually built. 86.186.54.45 (talk) 18:07, 14 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The line was authorized by the Great Western Railway (General Powers) Act of 1909. Construction began in 1912 but, work having been interrupted by the First World War, was not completed until 1925.
Incidentally, the statement that "the line was initially constructed for goods trains only" is of doubtful veracity: it was opened for parcels and goods traffic on 11 January 1925 and passenger trains began running just four months later, on 11 May, once all station building work had been completed.
This and other articles on the line and its stations are currently under review; will add this information, and references, in due course. -- Picapica (talk) 01:06, 5 March 2015 (UTC) (update)[reply]
