Timing of name origin
[edit]The article attributes the name to 1891, naming it after the Yukon Territory that was experiencing a gold rush.
However, in 1891, the Yukon Territory did not exist, and only small gold finds were being worked. In 1895, the Yukon District was defined within the Northwest Territories, along with the new Mackenzie, Franklin and Ungava districts. The Klondike Gold Rush was touched off in late summer 1897 when miners reached Seattle with word of the 1896 discovery, and the Yukon Territory was created in 1898.
That being the case, either Yukon, OK, had a prior name, or was named after the Yukon River and the moderate interest in gold mining in that otherwise unorganized portion of the Northwest Territories. GBC (talk) 00:06, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
