I would _not_ add links to the different Skischools in Zermatt to the page (and certainly not to one in particular). Considering WP:NOT, it does not belong here. And as long as noone shows me a decent rationale why to include them, i'll just keep reverting them out. Fisheke (talk) 15:47, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Citation needed"

[edit]

The dreaded Wiki auditor strikes again: "Although the official language is German, most inhabitants also speak French and some English[citation needed]." WHY is it needed? Again we hit the bugbear: is Wikipedia an academic accuracy exercise, or a useful encyclopedia? Yes indeed, it is important to protect against mere allegations, but an assertion that "most" readers would recognize as valid should not require a Citation.

Anyone who has visited Switzerland knows that "most" Swiss speak three or four languages: German, French, English and Italian. This is certainly true of urban Swiss, and those in tourist areas like Zermatt; the only people without much English would be in purely rural areas.

How many is "most"? Well how many tens of millions would you want? Or perhaps hundreds of millions - my last assertion above in fact would be true for most COUNTRIES in the 21st century. Can I beg you please to try leaving your dreaming spires and traveling overseas? Edetic (talk) 09:24, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"most readers would recognize as valid"? How would high school students in Zimbabwe know whether Zermatt was typical of Switzerland, or atypical? WP is supposed to be more authoritative than just repeating what "everybody knows" whether or not it's true. Doesn't Switzerland do censuses? Stan (talk) 12:50, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So "most readers" are Zimbabweans? Well now I see: you have an image of the reader you are working for. If you want to take that line, then where do you stop? The text says "the official language...", which surely should be enough for any African high school student to accept. I suggest this would not be the place to explain that Switzerland is divided into Cantons, each having its own official language. You could REALLY confuse your African students if you started down that path in this article. Edetic (talk) 20:03, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Famous death

[edit]

Following the death of a noted Hollywood actor, could it be added in the article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.158.153.203 (talk) 09:21, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
