Australia initially announced a 20-player preliminary squad on 1 August 2018. Most of the players named to this squad attended a training camp held from 10–17 August in Canberra at the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence, part of the Australian Institute of Sport. Players with overseas commitments that conflicted with the camp (specifically WNBA and US college) were excused. The preliminary squad had three naturalised players in Kelsey Griffin, Leilani Mitchell and Sami Whitcomb, with at most one allowed to be on the final squad.[1] The final squad was announced on 22 August.[2] On 10 September, it was announced that Sami Whitcomb would replace Leilani Mitchell due to a lower limb injury.[3] Basketball Australia then announced on 15 September, that Tessa Lavey was to take Lauren Mansfield's place on the squad due to her ongoing plantar fasciitis.[4]
