2013–14 Worcester Sharks season

[edit]

Created by Hunter Kahn (talk). Self nominated at 14:22, 7 October 2013 (UTC).

  • Regrettably, this should not have been approved as long as bare URLs were used in any refs. Articles with such refs should not be promoted to the main page. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:57, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
  • Actually, Hunter, it very clearly says "References in the article must not be bare URLs" in WP:DYKSG#D3. So there is a rule; you just didn't know about it until now. BlueMoonset (talk) 19:13, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
    • Ah, OK, sorry. I was looking under the main rules main rules and missed the supplementary guidelines. My apologies, I've done lots of DYK noms before and it's never come up because I usually do format the refs, or I'm simply asked to do it if I forgot, so it's never come up as an objection before. — Hunter Kahn 19:40, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
  • Hunter, thanks for updating the refs. This is just about ready to go, but I think you need to add a few words or a phrase or two clarifying that Worcester is a minor league affiliate (or whatever it exactly is) of San Jose. For someone who isn't at all knowledgeable about hockey, the off-season material is a bit confusing without this background fact clearly stated. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 22:56, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
  • Hunter, I apologize: it was the article I meant, not the hook, though I see I wasn't clear. In fact, ALT1 wouldn't work as a hook at the moment precisely because the distinction made in the hook is neither made nor sourced in the article. The original hook works fine: it's the article that needs a bit more clarity. And if you wanted to extend that clarity to the ECHL (which seems to be the next level below the AHL in terms of being a farm system for the NHL) when you discuss it in the third paragraph, so much the better. I didn't want to make any article changes myself since I'm just guessing at the exact relationship and how it works, while you'll know. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:06, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
    • Sorry that I misunderstood. Does this edit address your concern? If not, let me know and I'll try again. — Hunter Kahn 05:12, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
  • Yes, for the text. Thanks. I've just looked at the source citation for Stalock going to San Jose (FN11), and it's for a then-upcoming pre-season game in Phoenix. It doesn't actually have him necessarily staying in San Jose to start the season. Is there any source showing him on the San Jose roster after (or as of) the start of the NHL season? That's what's needed to back up a hook. (I saw that the other goalie competing with him for the backup goalie spot in Phoenix was sent to Worcester, but that's not definitive for Stalock remaining.) • Original hook supported; article updated to address issues including sourcing. ALT1 hook struck due to grammatical issues and because original hook was fine as it was. Thanks for your patience, Hunter Kahn. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:59, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
