Maria Bal[edit]

Maria Bal as Bacchante by Jacek Malczewski

  • IMO, creatures is awkward and should be replaced by beings. Maria is not mentioned in [1]. Why is this used as a reference? Also IMO, At the Source, Intermezzo or Angel of Death as hook images may fetch more hits. --Redtigerxyz Talk 17:32, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
  • Thank you, Redtigerxyz for your review. What you say proves that a second pair of eyes is usually priceless. I agree totally about the mythological beings. That's what I meant but I didn't find the right word I suppose. The one source you mentioned above does not spell her name, but prominently features her portraits with Thanatos, one of her mythological beings. Anyhow, I moved that citation lower down to better describe the author, and replaced it in the lead with a new source in support of the hook. I'm adding the Angel of Death illustration (left), because like you say, it would probably draw more attention from our readers. Thanks again, Redtigerxyz. Here is my ALT1:
Checked the Polish ref with Google translate. [2] It talks only about "At the Source" it seems. Also the complete article is not available. No ref for nudes of mythical characters. Did you mean nudes and mythical characters??? Also ref 5 [3] does not seem reliable. --Redtigerxyz Talk 05:39, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

I moved lower down that one Polish language citation, illustrated with the painting "At the Source", and replaced it with the new citation with direct quote from Musée d'Orsay in Paris where his mythical beings are expressly talked about. The nudes of mythical characters can be seen in the actual reproductions of paintings featured at our own Commons:Jacek Malczewski webpage. Please take a look at some of the examples, although not all of his life's work is uploaded there of course. I truly believe that the hook is now fully supported. The ref 5 which you mentioned is not at all academic, but it gives out the two main locations of the Pythia series which is OK. Thanks, Redtigerxyz... looking forward to your go-ahead. The images can not be used as evidence for the hook. It will be WP:OR. Ref 1 says that Malczewski "depicted mythological and fantastical beings", but not that he depicted Maria as such. Ref 2 explicitly talks about Maria as Death/Thanatos. That covers the mythological part. But not the nudes part. Ref 8 compares nudes separately. I am ok to give a go-head if the hook is "series of symbolic portraits of women, nude studies and mythological portrayals" or similar. Redtigerxyz Talk 18:43, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
