... that the earliest sources to use the name of Estonia in its modern meaning were the Scandinavian sagas? Source: "The sagas are the earliest sources in which the name of Estonia (Eistland) is used in its modern day sense" [1] p. 31
ALT1:... that before adopting the current name of Estonia as a self-designation, the Estonians used to refer themselves as maarahvas, literally meaning "land people" or "country folk"? Source: "One of their discoveries was the ethnonym maarahvas, which had been used until the middle of the nineteenth century, when it was replaced by the term eestlased (“Estonians”). Maarahvas literally means “land people” or “country folk”, ..." [2] p. 12
Overall: Both hooks verified to the source provided. Would it be better to include "Eistland" in the first hook? Something like ALT3: ... that the Scandinavian sagas were the first to use Eistland as a name for Estonia? feminist (talk) 15:06, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
@Feminist: Not a bad idea, but I am somewhat unsure about what would be the best wording, maybe: ALT4: ... that Eistland in the Scandinavian sagas was the first use of the name of Estonia in its modern meaning?
That works as well. I'll leave the choice to the promoter. feminist (talk) 03:16, 11 February 2020 (UTC)
@Feminist: your ALT3 is the best wording, but since you added a new hook fact, "Eistland", we need another reviewer to sign off on it. Yoninah (talk) 22:02, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
ALT3 facts are sourced in the article, including "Eistland", and a check in the source shows that it supports this. Repeating the hook below so it's easier to see. (I'm not sure whether "Eistland" should be in quotes or in italics; I'll let the promoter or the various prep set editors figure that out.) BlueMoonset (talk) 07:07, 17 February 2020 (UTC)
