Palmer E. Pierce[edit]

Palmer Eddy Pierce in 1919.

Created by Tomandjerry211 (talk). Self-nominated at 11:31, 10 April 2015 (UTC).

  • Note: The QPQ was incomplete; however, the user has less than 5 DYKs, so he is exempt from the requirement for this nomination. Yoninah (talk) 10:53, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
  • This is a good start-article for DYK; however, it needs more work to bring it up to general Wikipedia standards. I restructured and copyedited the presentation, noting in several places the need for a date rather than just saying "later". Since FindaGrave and Ancestry.com are not reliable sources, I deleted them, and now there are several paragraphs that require reliable sourcing. Perhaps there is a biography about him in a military encyclopedia or website? Done
  • Regarding the hooks: ALT1 is pretty standard for a military personality. The first hook has potential, but would be even better if you first identified him according to his military status. Done
  • Since the image in the article is public domain, you may want to submit it with this nomination. Best, Yoninah (talk) 20:49, 18 May 2015 (UTC) Done
  • Thank you for your edits. The new source that you added for his biography does not mention some of the material that it supposedly cites, so I removed the cites. I found and added some more references, although I can't find a definitive biography listing. All paragraphs have at least one cite now.
  • I tweaked the hook to add his military designation, which I think adds to the hookiness. The image is public domain. The only lingering issue is that there is no inline citation for the fact that he founded the NCAA. All I see in the sources you provided is that he was the first president of the organization. Either way, a cite is needed. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 22:19, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

I have removed the claim and replaced more simply with He was became the first President of the NCAA in 1904. -- Tomandjerry211 (Let's have a chat) 23:47, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

OK, but please add a citation right after that sentence. Yoninah (talk) 07:21, 20 May 2015 (UTC) Done
  • Thank you. I tweaked the hook to reflect the fact that he was the first president, not the founder, of the NCAA. The article could be filled out a lot more, but it is start-class and therefore eligible for DYK. Offline hook ref AGF and cited inline. Good to go. Yoninah (talk) 12:55, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
