Torture during the 2011–2012 Bahraini uprising

[edit]

Created/expanded by Bahraini Activist (talk). Self nom at 08:09, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

  • -- (quick note: nom has <5 DYK credits) -- A few concerns here. First, I want a second reviewer to comment on the picture. Second, the article has a great deal of reliance on a single report and on an ITN and political article like this, that raises neutrality concerns. Thirdly, the duplicator checker can't check the large document that is the report so I can't verify that there isn't plagiarism in the article. Additional help from another review would be much appreciated here. Regards, Lord Roem (talk) 01:52, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
This is my first nomination, so it's fine if I have less than 5 DYK credits. Many news reports will mention the same info here and will use Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry report as evidence (BICI is composed of international figures appointed by king). I have listed page numbers so you could verify. Page 225 of the BICI report (download) (235 in PDF file): "The Commission finds that five persons died as a result of torture.". This doesn't raise any neutrality concerns if we put in mind that the BICI report was accepted by king himself. Now you might wonder why is "at least" here? this is because BICI finished on 23 November 2011, and on January 2012, another death due to torture is suspected [1]. I'm not sure what you need with "duplicator checker", but I assure you that almost every single line is referenced. Bahraini Activist Talk to me 06:19, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
How about the following alternative hook, without the picture?
ALT1... that at least five people died due to torture during the 2011–2012 Bahraini uprising?
Thoughts? Lord Roem (talk) 16:58, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
I don't mind that. However, if there is a problem with the image we could use another one which has Metadata such as this [2] which is also included in the article and is to a more notable person. An article about this figure is under construction Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Karim Fakhrawi. Please don't feel that I'm trying to push an image, it's just that I would prefer if there is an image, but it's not a must. And thanks for the review. Yeah, maybe if the article is about the specific person, the image would be more appropriate.
Approving ALT1 hook without image, as agreed to above. All issues with the hook are resolved and the criteria is met. Looks like its good to go! Lord Roem (talk) 20:22, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
  • Article contains large-scale near-verbatim copying from the major source. Nikkimaria (talk) 15:32, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
  • A large section of text has also been pasted from here [3]. Graham Colm (talk) 17:34, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
The article is currently being re-written, you can follow this link to see progress. I will post here when I'm done. @Graham Colm, you're wrong, this article was never used, the link could probably be similar text copied from BICI report. Bahraini Activist Talk to me 18:29, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
