Tyler Ulis, 2014 McDonald's All-American Boys Game
[edit]( Back to T:TDYK )
( Article history links: )
... that 2014 McDonald's All-American and future point guard for Kentucky Tyler Ulis is the cousin of 2009 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Travis Walton?
Created by TonyTheTiger (talk). Self nominated at 01:17, 1 February 2014 (UTC).
- Note that this game actually occurs on April 3 UTC even though it is April 2 local time. Either the last slot on April 2 or the first slot on April 3 make the most sense.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 22:32, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
- 2nd and 3rd QPQs against Template:Did you know nominations/Frederick Lukis.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 01:26, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
- I guess this should be a date request to coincide with the game on April 2 (April 3 UTC).--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 01:30, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
- Full review needed of both articles. Note that date request is outside the six-week limit, so it will have to be declined. BlueMoonset (talk) 06:06, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- Is 6 weeks a new rule?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 06:49, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- If this nomination has not been promoted by February 19/20, can I request April 2/3?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 06:57, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- Tony, the special occasion holding area has had the "between five days and six weeks before the occasion" nomination instruction for years; if the approval is delayed it might be possible to stretch. The QPQs you've claimed for this nomination are questionable: the review needs to be thorough for all three articles and given an icon before you can be credited for them here, and when they're done it would be a courtesy to notify the nominator that you have found an issue. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:10, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- Full review still needed of both articles. QPQs now appear complete. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:57, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
- 2014 McDonald's All-American Boys Game is only 1231 char. Yoninah (talk) 21:35, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
- Tyler Ulis is new enough, long enough, well-referenced. Spot check of sources shows no close paraphrasing. Hook ref verified and cited inline. QPQ done. This part of the hook is good to go. Yoninah (talk) 21:49, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
- Overall condition of hook: one article too short, the other meets DYK requirements. A new hook can be proposed with just the Tyler Ulis article, or the other article can be expanded by about 300 prose characters (or more) to be long enough for DYK. BlueMoonset (talk) 21:56, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
- Can someone take a look at this now.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 10:27, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
- Also, I would like to reinstate my date request above.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 10:27, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
- 2014 McDonald's All-American Boys Game is new enough, long enough, well referenced, no close paraphrasing seen. QPQ done. However, the hook fact is not cited in the article. The hook fact should appear and be cited in both nominated articles. Yoninah (talk) 23:36, 22 February 2014 (UTC)
- What are you saying needs to apear in the article. Ulis mentions both MAAG and Walton. MAAG mentions Ulis but not Walton. Is this the problem?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 00:05, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
- Yes. The hook fact must appear and be cited in each article in a multi-article hook. Yoninah (talk) 10:30, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
- I have always understood that it is NOT necessary for the hook fact to appear in every article in a multi-article hook. However, in this instance, the absence of the hook fact from one of the articles is an indication of the trivial nature of the hook fact. I suggest a different hook. For example:
- ALT1: ... that Tyler Ulis is one of four 2014 McDonald's All-Americans who have committed to play basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats?
- The hook I propose is not fully supported by both articles, but the basic substance of the hook is in both. --Orlady (talk) 18:26, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
- I expanded some links and added some cites, and now the hook fact is supported in both articles. If Tony agrees to ALT1, it's ready to go. Yoninah (talk) 18:43, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
- I don't mind the ALT, but I don't see what is wrong with the first hook. Not every part of the hook has to be in a ref in every bolded article, if I understand correctly.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 19:16, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
- Why am I the only one who reads Wikipedia:Did you know#Cited hook: The fact(s) mentioned in the hook must be cited in the article and concludes that it applies to multiple articles in a hook? I have always operated this way, even on a 30-hook nomination. As for the first hook, I agree with Orlady, it is rather trivial. Yoninah (talk) 20:54, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
- P.S. What about the date request?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 19:17, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
- Yoninah, O.K. so what about the date request?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 21:23, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
- Great, let's move on it. Hook ref verified and cited inline in both articles. ALT1 good to go. Since we're finally wrapping it up less than 6 weeks before the date you want, I'll move it to the holding area. Yoninah (talk) 21:33, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
