  • ... that pioneering Scottish ecologist William Gardner Smith only became active in the field his brother Robert died suddenly, leaving an unfinished manuscript?

  • Length, size, date and hook verified. AGF on offline source. ALT: that pioneering ecologist William Gardner Smith only became active in the field after the sudden death of his brother, who had left an unfinished manuscript that William completed?. --Zoupan 18:14, 23 March 2012 (UTC)
  • Alt sounds good to me, makes the point better than the original. Guettarda (talk) 18:26, 23 March 2012 (UTC)
Reiterating the original tick, so this shows up as completed; the only difference between ALT2 and Zoupan's ALT is the inclusion of Robert's name, which makes it more personal, and only increases it to 187 characters, under the DYK maximum. Have also struck out earlier versions of hook to avoid confusion.
