Notes

[edit]

I derived this template from the English-language Wikibooks template b:Template:Naming policy notice. The history was as follows:

   * (cur) (last) 23:57, 7 May 2007 Iamunknown (Talk | contribs | block) m (Unprotected "Template:Naming policy notice": unprotecting, no reason to semi-protect, I doubt that anonymous users will find this template and, if they do, any vandalism will not have widespread effect) [rollback]
   * (cur) (last) 21:54, 25 March 2007 Iamunknown (Talk | contribs | block) m (Protected "Template:Naming policy notice": no naming policy violations will happen here, so semi-protect...hopefully no one decides to vandalize [edit=autoconfirmed:move=autoconfirmed])
   * (cur) (last) 21:41, 25 March 2007 Iamunknown (Talk | contribs | block) (modify so that it can be transcluded)
   * (cur) (last) 21:39, 25 March 2007 Iamunknown (Talk | contribs | block) m (Introduction moved to Template:Naming policy notice: tempate-izing this so that it can be used on other pages)
   * (cur) (last) 16:21, 8 February 2007 Derbeth (Talk | contribs | block) (Special:Whatlinkshere/Introduction)
   * (cur) (last) 16:19, 8 February 2007 Derbeth (Talk | contribs | block) m (Protected "Introduction": no new pages should be created here [edit=sysop:move=sysop])
   * (cur) (last) 16:19, 8 February 2007 Derbeth (Talk | contribs | block) (warning message to avoid creating another pages here!)
   * (cur) (last) 16:04, 8 February 2007 Derbeth (Talk | contribs | block) (Introduction moved to New Media Art/Introduction: wrong naming convention)

Deprecate Template:/doc

[edit]

{{editprotected}} Please deprecate this template by adding

{{tdeprecated|/doc|template doc}}

(see {{tdeprecated}} and the template documentation pattern) --AlastairIrvine 19:02, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is because {{template doc}} provides a better "user interface", IMHO --AlastairIrvine 19:03, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Is there consensus for the deprecation? --MZMcBride 19:11, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This template is only to warn people that it is incorrect to transclude {{/doc}} ... so it is basically deprecated by default. But adding the deprecated template might deter others who come across this template from using the documentation subpage pattern. Therefore I worry that it might not be a good thing. --Iamunknown 19:14, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) There's no reason to deprecate this particular template because it has never been and was never meant to be used. It already links to the template documentation, and doesn't favor one method over another. –Pomte 19:15, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bad/Good Example edit request

[edit]

Please add a border; visually it's hard to differentiate between the columns. --Notmyhandle 07:20, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

checkY Done - Yeah, it was hard to read those examples. I added the standard class="wikitable" to make the columns readable.

Needs default sortkey

[edit]

{{editprotected}}

Please add a category default sortkey for "pagename" or instead, add a doc pg. Thanks! --Funandtrvl (talk) 18:05, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

 Done. I've been trying to work out if this template is still needed. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 22:21, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Funandtrvl: I tried to add {{documentation}} to this page, since we should do as we teach. But it looked wrong, it made it look like this was not a warning message, but just another template. So I think we have to live without a /doc subpage for this page. So anyone that want to update its categories and interwikis have to use {{editprotected}} instead. Sorry about that.
MSGJ: Yeah, I don't see how people land on this page. I tried to type in the wrong /doc links in several ways both in page code and in the search bar, but didn't land on this page. But the stats say that this page gets some visits, so perhaps some people do end up here. So I guess we should leave it up. Better safe than sorry.

Lock

[edit]

Can the fully protected lock topicon be added to the article? Thanks Goveganfortheanimals (talk) 10:41, 1 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 24 May 2021

[edit]

Please change the page to:

#REDIRECT [[Wikipedia:Editnotice#How to create a documentation subpage]] {{Redirect category shell| {{R to project}} {{R from alternative name}} }} to redirect readers to a better position instead of having an unused placeholder page. 54nd60x (talk) 06:13, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

 Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit template-protected}} template. The page has been in essentially its current form since its creation in 2007. – Jonesey95 (talk) 06:32, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The purpose of this template

[edit]

This template is here to say that using {{/doc}} is inappropriate. However now we mostly transclude {{documentation}} so now we can TfD this page, maybe? Thingofme (talk) 03:20, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No, this still serves a purpose for informing editors of docs pattern. Thingofme (talk) 10:26, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
