closed parameter

"It should only be used if the coaster is permanently closed, if there is any chance that the coaster will operate again, leave this parameter blank." Not sure I agree with this. It seems SNBO coasters (other than known, short closures) should go ahead and use a closed date. Any SNBO coaster has some chance of being operated again, but the closed date could still be valuable information. I'd like to revisit this again (since I didn't get any commentary last time... ) I agree that we shouldn't be using the 'closed' parameter for things like routine maintenance or other cases where we *know* that it will reopen. But if a coaster has closed, the future of a coaster is in doubt, even if there's a chance of it reopening, I feel this parameter should be filled out. Auto categorisation

I just came across an article with this template on it in my travels and noticed that the location link pointed to a disambiguation page La Ronde. However, fixing it to point to the proper page, La Ronde (amusement park) messes up the auto categorisation and puts the article in a redlinked category. Might be worth looking into fixing this. I have had to review most of your edits as they made the amusement park portal link appear like an advert banner across the top of the page and not tucked in the bottom of the infobox. I've reverted the templates back to the automatically categorizing version. I see the guideline, but I think this change created far too much collateral damage. I don't think that sorting methods are particularly important for these categories, nor is it a huge problem if the categories end up on a couple of userspace drafts. I think WP:IAR is very applicable. A lot of information will be lost if we remove the categorization function. IronGargoyle (talk) 22:39, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

The reason the portal appeared as a banner is because IronGargoyle reverted the {{APportalframeless}} template. Regarding the categorisation, the solution to that is to go and categorise the pages properly, rather than relying on a template to do it. There are far too many overlapping and crufty theme park infobox templates right now and the whole lot need sorted out. I'll see whether I can do it in a more piecemeal manner. I changed the {{APportalframeless}} because it seemed to fix some issues in infobox when I had reverted back to re-allow categorization. I'm sorry it added an advert-like banner somewhere else. I still think that old "look" of the template was a bit better, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. The categorization is restored, which is the important part I think. Two locations

Can someone add a parameter called "other locations" or something for non-portable roller coasters that are located in two places simultaneously eg: Rock 'n' Roller Coaster 81.107.100.187 18:43, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

As per the guidelines at WP:ROCO#Templates, if the roller coasters are identical, you can use Template:Infobox roller coaster simplified. If they are not identical, then two separate pages/infoboxes should be used. --Rehcsif 21:52, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Auto-categorization

Could we also auto-categorize by year opened? I did not see a category for that in the Category:Roller coasters tree. It would help to have these categories in order to keep articles on new roller coasters updated. --Idont Havaname (Talk) 04:35, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Say that it's a roller coaster

It's really not very obvious that the box refers to a roller coaster. For example, on Steel Hawg, separated from the context of the page, you wouldn't know that it refers to a roller coaster unless you know what RCDB is, and you might not recognise what the icon is supposed to be.

Even then, those things are at the bottom of the box; make it clear at the top!

Just to give an example (not pushing an agenda on anybody), check out Template:Atheism2: this tells you nice and clearly that you're going to be reading about Atheism.

All templates within this scope are tagged with the amusement park portal link. No infobox should be without at least a lead stating something along the lines of <coaster-name> is a <steel/wood> roller coaster at <location>, <location2>, <location3>. thrill rating

any thoughts of adding a category for thrill ratings. I see many parks using a thrill rating system to describe the intensity of the ride. example.. cedar fairs uses a 5 point rating system see: rating system example--Nickvet419 (talk) 07:58, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Not all parks advertise their thrill ratings well. Mick Doohan Motocoaster is an example of this. It is advertised as a big thrill ride despite the train barely making it through the track after the first hill. It should be a family coaster. Why the red?

Trains {{{trains}}} trains with {{{carspertrain}}} cars. Riders are arranged {{{ridersperrow}}} across in {{{rowspercar}}} row(s) for a total of Expression error: Unrecognised punctuation character "{" riders per train. Why the note in red? Peter Horn User talk 19:59, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

To create this section I used some maths. The expression used thinks it is not compatible with parameters ({{{trains}}} etc). Basically it multiplies the ridersperrow, rowspercar and carspertrain together to get a total number of riders per train. Park Sub-section

Some parks have coasters in sub-section that cant be linked with the current section attribute. Example, Kings Island has a subsection X-Base in the Coney Mall section, but that can't be identified in the current setup. It would be nice for a "Park Sub-section" category under the Park section category. --Nickvet419 (talk) 15:53, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

What's the difference between closed and defunct? A lot of pages use defunct so I think that should have a color like the other status's do. Also, defunct is used more than closed so I don't really understand the difference. --Astros4477 (talk) 22:32, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

I would consider both terms fairly interchangable. I've integrated "closed", "defunct", "removed" and "demolished" together. They should now all appear red just like closed originally did. Themeparkgc  Talk  22:58, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Current or former names of manufacturers

There is a discussion currently underway about whether to include the manufacturer's name when the ride opened or the current manufacturer's name.
