Thoughts?

[edit]

@Funcrunch: I created this new template to deal with talk pages like Talk:Kate Bornstein. Any thoughts or suggestions for improvement? I suppose it should assign pages to a category at some point. Kaldari (talk) 09:08, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Kaldari: Thanks for the ping. I think this is really good to have as an edit notice, but as a talk page notice there's some overlap with the existing Template:MOS-TW, Template:MOS-TM, and Template:MOS-NB (although pronouns are not specified for nonbinary folks). Maybe we should get more input from WT:LGBT on refining/reworking all of these templates? Funcrunch (talk) 16:45, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Kaldari: Also it would be best to use a word other than "prefer" because (as I said in my talk yesterday) a person's pronouns should be considered mandatory unless otherwise stated. (I'm aware there's a lot of pushback on that concept...) Funcrunch (talk) 16:47, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Funcrunch: Any suggestions for a better title/wording? Maybe {{Pronouns editnotice}}? Kaldari (talk) 17:11, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Kaldari: Maybe, or just {{Pronoun notice}} in case this template also gets used on talk pages. The language in the actual template and instructions would need to change also, for example "The subject of this biography goes by the following pronouns", or "uses" if "goes by" is too colloquial. Funcrunch (talk) 17:15, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Funcrunch: Made a bunch of changes. Let me know what you think. Kaldari (talk) 18:39, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Kaldari: Great, thanks for doing this. I'm going to start adding this editnotice to trans/nonbinary BLPs. You should still consider posting to WT:LGBT about this template to alert other editors. Maybe to WT:GGTF as well. Funcrunch (talk) 18:59, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Permissions question

[edit]

@Kaldari: Seeing your implementation of this template for Kate Bornstein, are only editors with administrator or template permissions (neither of which I have) able to add this editnotice to articles? Funcrunch (talk) 19:40, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, yes. Edit notices can only be added by users with the edit-interface right I believe (outside of the user namespace). Kaldari (talk) 19:51, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, OK. So should I draw up a list of trans/NB folks into one big edit request? Do I need to ask formally at a noticeboard or can I just recruit you and other sympathetic admin/template editors to do it? :-) Funcrunch (talk) 19:55, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Kaldari: The BLPs I'm most interested in adding this template to are Asia Kate Dillon and Jill Soloway. Both use they/their/them pronouns and are constantly getting misgendered (despite me putting their pronoun choices in the lede). Funcrunch (talk) 14:18, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Funcrunch: I've added it to those articles. Kaldari (talk) 22:34, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
