Parameter

[edit]

Hi, Edokter – I restored the parameter you removed because I've found several pages that were broken by that removal. One example is {{Infobox organization/doc}}, where the ibox in the Usage section has a "Coordinates" parameter that was broken. I first ran across this at Help:Magic words, where I just fixed it by using two instances of {{Thinsp}}. I started investigating and found and fixed several more pages using this template's What links here list, but there seem to be a lot of pages that use the parameter, so it seems the best fix was to restore the parameter. Hope you're okay with it. Best of Everything to You and Yours! – Paine  11:27, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

(Late reply) I will have to fix that then. The parameter is completely redundant and was added by a user that was banned for just these kind of edits. Total transclusion count is about 760, so it shouldn't be too hard. -- [[User:Edokter]] {{talk}} 11:35, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed redirect from Thinspace

[edit]

To anyone interested (including A. di M. and Droll), does {{Thinspace}} do anything special that {{Thin space}} can't already handle? If not, then I should like to suggest Template:Thinspace redirect to Template:Thin space. If it does, then perhaps a special notation might be added to the top of each template's doc to succinctly distinguish the usage of one from the other. I wanted to check first before formally proposing the merger. — Christopher, Sheridan, OR (talk) 00:29, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Thinspace has been nominated for merging with Template:Thin space. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for discussion page. Thank you. — Christopher, Sheridan, OR (talk) 16:54, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request withdrawn per discussion at the Templates for discussion page. — Christopher, Sheridan, OR (talk) 17:47, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
They have different functions. This template puts thin spaces before and after the string in |1=. The other one puts thin spaces in between each of the arguments, but not before the first or after the last. The nowrapping is also applied differently. Have you created a sandbox version of this template and test cases that would handle the redirects and preserve their appearance, or do you have a proposal for how it would work? – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:56, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I have received a reply at the template's entry on the Templates for discussion page. In response, I have withdrawn my merge proposal. I still recommend adding a notation somewhere near the top of each template, so as to avoid future confusion. — Christopher, Sheridan, OR (talk) 17:33, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Go ahead. The documentation is not protected. – Jonesey95 (talk) 18:41, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Maybe later, as I've been dealing with a contentious discussion elsewhere, and am taking a break. If someone else takes up the task before I do, that would be fine. Otherwise, I will look into such an edit after a good rest.
information Note: Template:Thinspace has a proposed move which is being discussed at Template talk:Thinspace#Requested move 24 May 2021 — Christopher, Sheridan, OR (talk) 03:18, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
OK, later will work. I'm sorry that you're dealing with a contentious discussion; they are rarely fun. Is it about your confusing signature, which violates the signature guideline? – Jonesey95 (talk) 05:16, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
