The International School of Samui (ISS) is an international school on the island of Koh Samui in Thailand. The school has 300 pupils, both boys and girls, from 2 to 18 years of age currently enrolled from 35 different countries. It is organised into 4 phases: Kindergarten, Primary School, Senior School and Sixth Form. It is based in accordance with the National Curriculum of England. The majority of the teaching staff is British and are recruited from the UK. The current Headmistress is Mrs Lisa Taylor Hawkins, a UK Qualified Teacher who joined the school in 2007.

History of International School of Samui

ISS was founded in 2006 under its old name of Bluewater by the current Founder & Chairman, Mr Jeremy Lees, a UK Qualified Teacher, ISI International School Inspector and former British Army Officer and Helicopter Commander.

Accreditation

ISS is accredited by CfBT Education Trust. The school has completed and passed an intense and vigorous 3 year international school inspection process that lead to the school being awarded the "International School Quality Mark' (ISQM). ISS is also a member of the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) and the Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA).

Student body

As of 2015 there are 300 students.

Houses

There are 3 houses at ISS:

Einstein (Red) - named after Albert Einstein, a theoretical physicist

Darwin (Blue) - named after Charles Robert Darwin, a naturalist & geologist

Newton (Green) - named after Sir Isaac Newton, a physicist & mathematician

Each house is led by a House Captain and all students are enrolled in the Houses. Competitions and activities are held throughout the year to win House trophies given at the end of the academic year on Speech Day.
